I'm after some thoughts on this Halogen Oven

    https://www.aldi.co.uk/en/specialbuys/sunday-12th-january/product-detail/ps/p/halogen-oven/

I keep looking at them every time Aldi sell them and think about buying one, who's got one and would you recommend them? Or are they just another gadget that will end up in the cupboard before I eventually throw it away?

I can't vouch for the Aldi one but I have this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/Andrew-James-Premium-Replaceable-WARRANTY/dp/B00BXIHY8E/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1389204153&sr=8-4&keywords=andrew+james+halogen+oven and have used it practically every day since it arrived. I only use my main oven for warming plates! I thoroughly recommend them.

I'm a great fan of my halogen (I have the AJ one as well). If you love your baking, it might not completely replace a full size oven but I replaced my gas cooker and instead use the halogen, a microwave, slow cooker and occasionally a portable electric hob.

Think of it as a fan-assisted powerful grill and you'll not go far wrong, I think.

Here's a thread on them with reviews good and bad:

I gave my first one to my sister, can't remember what make it was but got it from Amazon, when I replaced it with a Halowave one from JML which I can do air fried chips in!

    Wouldn't be without it.

I got my halogen 2 years ago and use it all the time...I no longer have a 'normal' cooker.

You dont need to cook food for as long as a conventional oven, your roasts stay moist and best of all.......it takes 5 mins and a bit of washing up liquid to clean the oven!!

I'm another Halogen Oven owner - and love it! This is mine.
Roast Chicken from it is absolutely delicious .
  • Thanks for all your replies, by the sound of it I should of just gone for it a while ago.
  • To do the air fried chips in the JML one, do I need the frying basket?

I was given one when we moved into our new house. At the moment we don't have an oven - we're waiting for the new kitchen to be fitted. I've found it brilliant for oven chips (it has a 'scoop' thing in it which goes round and round and turns the chips), and I can bake bread in it one loaf at a time (I make four loaves at a time so it's very time-consuming). On Christmas Day I made roast potatoes and they were a disaster. I ended up with a few potatoes, not properly roasted, and the rest were crumbs. I have tried making a crumble in it. The crumble cooked very quickly, but the rhubarb was still raw so I had to put it in the microwave to cook.

I was excited about the halogen at first, but I now realise that it has its limits and I can't wait until I get an oven again. I will probably just store it away (and the microwave which I've used on a handful of occasions since I got it).
