I want to get a Halogen oven, is there one that you would recommend? From reading the positives about them, I think I need one with 12litre one, a hinged lid, an element not a bulb (but that´s what I though Halogen was...confused?), extension rings, heats up to 250 degrees.
I am a bit confused as there seem to be a lot of conflicting reports, some people say they have used them for ages with no problem, while others say the lids, broke, the halogen part failed, don´t expect them to last longer than 18mths etc etc
Your advice would be very welcome

  • My mother and I have both had halogen ovens from Ideal World and they either broke down just before or just after the guarantee ran out, between us we have bought / received 6 replacements for faulty
ovens and have now given up and decided to wait until they have mastered the problems.

But if you decide to risk it we would say hinged with extension ring is a must because if it is not hinged you are left with needing a place to put the very hot lid.

Good job I have my combination microwave to fall back on.

I remember seeing (and coveting) a halogen oven over 20 years ago. I saw it at the Lowveld Show in White River. They were horrendously expensive so I didn't get one. If they haven't mastered the problems yet, then I don't think I'll bother (I was still coveting one :rotfl:)

I would positively recommend this one

I have barely had my main oven on since I bought it. It took a while to get used to, but I wouldn't be without it now. One of the bonuses is that it is so easy to clean, unlike a conventional oven!

  • Further to my reply above when I said my mother and I have gone through 6 ovens in no time and would not recommend them, mother telephoned me today and said her current halogen which is 10 months old has just gone wrong again and she is going to return it under guarantee and request refund because she does not want the hassle of trying yet another one !!!

Need I say more the longest one has ever lasted either of us is 16 months.
  • Got an Andrew James Halogen Oven today (non hinged) and had a quick go at chicken thighs and cheese and tomato on toast with mushrooms (not at the same time), first chicken was bloody, so I decided to put a few holes in it and it cooked ok but I prefer the taste from my electric oven so I will try this again later and try marinating etc, I found the turning/draining a bit time consuming as I was trying to do the housework but kinda fascinating to watch.

Cheese on toast was lovely so will keep using it as a grill and build up my knowledge slowly an eventually use it as a oven, I'm particularly looking forward to jacket potatoes yummy and hopefully a smaller electric bill.

I have read most of the thread, thanks :T and have ordered a thermometer for the chicken.
    Wishing you a lucky 2023: 🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀
  • I've had the halogen oven from Ideal World for two years now and no problems with it at all (touch wood!) it has a hinged lid and extender ring which I would recommend looking for before purchasing one.
It's great for making smaller quantities of things as no messing about heating up the main oven for some garlic bread or chicken portions for two. It also copes easily with decent sized joints of meat.
Haven't attempted cakes in it as I have a Sharp combination microwave/fan oven/grill which works well with cakes so sticking with that.
The halogen oven is an excellent extra oven in my kitchen and I really wouldn't be without it.
Must say though that the glass bowl is pretty heavy to lift when emptying it after it's clean but that's a small minus point for me.
  • I did a small home made pizza for the first time in mine, during the week. I was a bit worried that the base wouldn't cook through, so cooked that for about 5 mins first, then turned it over, then added the toppings. Worked out quite well, although do prefer it done in the wood fired oven, but couldn't be bothered faffing about with that, and was starving! :p

Yes it is the LCD one. Set it to 200 and for 10 minutes. After 1 minute and 20 secs the light and fan goes off and it beeps constantly with E1 on thre screen. The only way to stop the beeping is to unplug it arghhh

    Answer from tech dept
can you try switching the item off by the mains whilst holding the start button, after holding the start button for five seconds switch the item back on by the mains holding the start button for another five seconds, this is like a restart function that should remove the error.:rotfl:
