Yes it is the LCD one. Set it to 200 and for 10 minutes. After 1 minute and 20 secs the light and fan goes off and it beeps constantly with E1 on thre screen. The only way to stop the beeping is to unplug it arghhh

I will be buying a halogen oven within the next few weeks, and would welcome the advice from anyone on here who uses one - which one to buy, how useful it is, and so on.

I've been reading reviews and it seems that the Andrew James model http://www.halogenoven101.co.uk/andrew-james-halogen-oven-1/ is good - has anyone on here tried this one?

    Thanks in anticipation!

I've got the Andrew James halogen oven and am really pleased with it. It's much cheaper to use than the main oven and I've even cooked a roast in it (can only do that if you buy the extender ring).

I have one and I love it, works great very quiet and I can bake cakes :j I had a jml one before, all my cakes were almost black on top and uncooked on the bottom, now they are perfect. I got this one with all the extras clicky The first thing I cooked in it was the fruit cake from the cookbook :rotfl:

Thank you, JoeDenise and Nmm. I will definitely get the Andrew James oven (with the extender ring). Thank you both so much for taking the time to respond.

I have the Andrew James one too. It is very good and I rarely use the big oven now. You must get the exender ring though and give it time to get used to it. I have found Jacket spuds for instance take loads longer to do. I often use the extender ring and put one of the plates that came with mine on the top rack to stop things burning. You should get the lid rest as well.
I wanna be in the room where it happens

VJSmum - thanks for the info; I will definitely get all the bits with it, too, so that I can make the most of it.

Put a thermometer in the bowl and you'll see the bottom gets nowhere near the temperature of the top, the fan is not very efficient at distributing heat. All food needs to be turned, unless you want hard wet bottoms on your sausage rolls (possibly not a joint of pork w crackling, haven't tried it yet). First thing I did was drill a hole through the knob of the pathetic little clockwork timer so I could jam it and use a proper electronic timer. Useful emergency oven but never going to be cordon bleu. By the way you can find the JML (is that the name of the telly channel) one, with extender etc at £69.99 + £4.99p&p on ebay for £39.99 post free. One extra bit of bent wire that would have been handy would be a rack to sit on top to warm plates, I shall probably make one.

    Hi all.

Presumably you can cook ready meals/ shop bought pies/pizzas etc in these.

Do they take less time to cook then in a conventional oven?

If so how do you know how long to put them in for?

    Some other questions...

Suffering from ill health, I don't want anything that's too heavy or cumbersome to use or hard to clean.

I am thinking of getting an Andrew James one. Is the self clean function really any good? Do you need to do other cleaning too?

Since there's only me normally I am considering a 7l one. The lid will be lighter and smaller. However I am a bit worried maybe the cooking isn't as good in a smaller one?

Does anyone have the overall dimensions of the Andrew James 12l and 7l models? ie total width and depth including the plastic holder bits, plus the height including when the lid is on?

    Thanks.
