I just wipe the inside of my lid - while the machine is still hot - with a cloth/dish sponge and then dry with a teatowel. Mine has the 'hinged lid' (Cookworks from IdealWorld), so I like to do this to make sure that there's no condensation/liquid that might run down inside the lid and get into the 'internal electrics/bulb'. Probably just me being a bit paranoid, but I don't like liquid/electrics ...........

It's not showing any signs of discolouration, so I presume it's made of the same kind of 'borosilicate glass' that the bowl's made of.

I have seen the idealworld one. Would you recommend it?

If you have access to COSTCO they have them for under £25. From Monday.

    (Halogen Ovens that is)
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

My first one 'gave up the ghost' after around 15mths (the bulb went) but by then, I liked it so much that I bought a replacement. So far, so good - this one is serving me well.

I've heard a few theories since that the halogen bulbs are only 'destined' for a certain number of hours of use .............. but, to be honest, if this one gives up the ghost, I'll go for one that has an easily replaced bulb.

    Apart from that:
    • I love the way that they cook
    • that you don't have to wait for them to 'warm-up'
    • that you can plug it in anywhere (electric hook-ups when camping or caravans)
    • that you don't have to bend down to put things in it
    • that you can see everything cooking clearly
Currently, there's another one on IdealWorld - with a rotisserie and a tumbler basket - like a combination between an Actifry and a Halogen Oven - oooooooooooh I'm so tempted :o .......... but if my Actifry packs up, then it's definitely on my shopping list ;).

    Thanks

I'd go for the largest one that you have the room for and can afford!

You can cook a small amount in a big one, but NOT a large amount in a small one. You never know when you might have visitors to cook for :).

My James Andew halogen oven arrived yesterday:). Set it all up and read instructions which advised to try toasting a slice of bread. However after 2 minutes it turns off and alarms E1. Does anyone know why this is ? Thanks in advance

Are you sure that 'it turned itself off'?

The light does go on/off when it's being used - depending on the temperature that's been selected. Although the light goes off, the fan is still turning and the timer is still in operation.

It turns off to let you know that the correct temp has been reached, and then comes back on again when the temp drops a little.

Sounds like you bought one of the new LCD ones? I bought a manual one and have had no issues whatsoever. I've even managed to bake 3 cakes successfully :j I would suggest ringing/messaging them, was there anything in the manual about error codes?
