I would have a word with whoever bought it for you - there's no way it should have gone that quickly.

They should be able to contact whoever it was bought off for a replacement/refund.

My first one 'went' after around 18mths - but by then, I liked it so much that I was quite happy to buy a replacement. No problems with my second one - so far, at least :).

When I do pies in the halogen, I only ever put the pastry on the top - never tried with both, but I just got the idea that this would be the case.

Besides which, I'm on a 'change of lifestyle programme' - and part of the advice is 'if you're baking pies, it's healthier NOT to put pastry in the base of the pie'.

Well I guess many pies these days just have a pastry top(depending on what they are cooked in)And some are called pies(and have no pastry)often just mashed potato on top and you spoon out the contents so I can understand your point of view.

I just received one after purchasing it from Amazon not too long ago.

It's the Andrew James Premium Digital Halogen Oven
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B008KYMEGG

Cost me £53, but it seems to be one of the better quality ones, with good (hopefully real) reviews. Lots of accessories and a replacement bulb too.

Just have to get use to using it now. I've already burnt a couple of items. :(

comics - don't forget that, although these are 'termed as ovens' they are, to all intents and purposes, 'grills'.

When cooking something bulky - such as a roast chicken - make sure that you put it on the low rack so it isn't too close to the bulb. Also a good idea to put the extender ring in place to allow plenty of space for the heat to circulate.

You can also place items on the low rack then put the high rack in place with one of the baking trays upside down on top. This then acts as 'a diffuser' to prevent burning.

Good Luck and please persevere with it - takes a time to get used to it. Remember that the folks in the infomercials have been using them for years .................. and it's just possible that they have something partly cooked 'off-screen' in case of problems while cooking and filming at the same time ;).

All I did was go to google and put in MSE halogen oven, it was the top page. If that helps.

Not sure of anyone has mentioned this, but "Ideal World" have a downloadable recipe book available for free on their website.

It's obviously written with their particular Halogen Oven in mind but it's a good starting point.

For some reason this laptop won't allow me to copy n paste a link so just Google for "ideal world halogen cookbook download" and it's the top non-sponsored link.

    Hope this helps.
