We've just recently moved and as a house-warming present my parents bought us one. It's one of these. So far I'm very impressed. The house has an oil-fired Stanley range in it which I'm not at all impressed with so don't use (we're going to re-do the kitchen so we're getting rid of it eventually). I've done oven chips in it, and they're far better than when done in a conventional oven which I've found can dry them out. I've also made bread in it - admittedly I can only bake one loaf at a time, when normally I'd make four at a time in the oven. I've found the trick is not to let it rise as much as normal because it continues to rise quite a bit when it's in the halogen cooker. I also made some choc chip buns in it today. I had to use silicon cake cases and fitted 12 in. I put the filling in when they were in situ, and used the extender ring so that the heat source wasn't too close to them. I'm going to do roast potatoes in it this evening. I'm really chuffed with it so far.

Colour me jealous! I have an ordinary halogen oven and love it but am quite envious of the turning/crisping ability of your one.

I've just bought a hinged lidded one from next, has all the bits with it including extender ring, pizza plate, cake mould
So far done oven chips, petit pain, roast chicken and rosties
Bit unsure how to do veg same time as chicken as I put chicken on the bottom with spuds and carrots and parsnips above, the carrots burnt in half hr so I did that wrong lol
The chicken and roast spuds were fantastic even my fussy 9 yr old aggpreed!
  • I've had several halogen oven, all have been satisfactory, my parents who are in there 80s also have one, which is now 2yrs old and has now broken but hey still want me to get them another one from the same place, which is Costco, so I'm going down tomorrow to get it, price about £25 + vat, we've had all the dear ones just get a cheap one the have at least a 12month warranty with them then when they are broken just chuck it in the bin, saves paying out for expensive insurance on them, I've got the remoska from Lakeland, had it for three years now and would get another if it broke, get the large pan with it, they are nonstick, and are still going strong, so must be good nonstick, it only has one on and off switch no temperature gauge, as the temperature is controlled by the small pan, which is used for pizzas chips, jacket potatoes, beef burgers, and all that sort of stuff, the big pan I fill with say my homemade lasagne directly into the pan not in a separate dish, and cook it like that, the small pan tested with an oven thermometer is about 220c the large one is about 190c get the book with it as well then after just adapt your recipes accordingly, the only thing is they are about £130 and can only be bought from Lakeland if you look up the reason for this the story is quite interesting, and I think the ethics of this company are very commendable, what I did was ring them up and told them I would like to buy one but are expensive, and was told if you don't like send it back you can't say fairer than that, and there returns policy are second to none I've not found to compare to them, as my panasonic bread maker broke down last Wednesday rang them up told them Friday morning a new bread maker turned up at the door, they said put the old one in the box ring this number which I did and they picked it up on the Monday morning.....amazing service ..........so you've got the info now the choice is yours....hope this helps.....Mike the Decorator.

Just taken delivery of an air fryer ring accessorie from Coopers of Stortford, not actually used it yet, but it's supposed to make a halogen into something approaching a Tefal Actifry - fir £9.99...
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

I've got the JML one which comes with a chip basket & extender ring which turns it into an airfryer like the Phillips airfryer. Seems to work OK with frozen ovenchips and wasn't too bad with fresh chips which hadn't been parboiled. Plan on trying again with parboiled chips and think they will be as good as, if not better, than frozen chips. Price was £79.99.
