  • I thought I read somewhere 20% lower than you would your oven and 20% shorter? Or have a dreamt that?

I wouldn't be without my halogen and use it for many things. It's ideal for me as I can't bend to use the oven.

If you can get one, OP, I would definitely recommend. You can also get some cheap halogen recipe books on Amazon :)

How long do you cook them for and how do you know what temp to use ? Newbie here :rotfl:
It's a bit trial and error but I cook most things at 180 degrees:D. I usually put the timer about 15 minutes less than I'd do in the main oven and can usually tell whether it needs another 10 minutes, 5 minutes or whatever more, sometimes it'll be ready.

I'm sure you'll get used to it quite quickly once you start using it and experimenting with timings & temperatures.

  • Now i've read somewhere that you're only meant to put the items directly on the shelves, is this right or do people use trays? I'm just thinking about cleaning it really, does it all need cleaning every time you use it?
  • Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Jacket spuds shouldn't take 2 hours.

!!!!! them all over with a skewer before putting them in the oven and they should be done in just over an hour.

That is so weird. The site obviously thought I was using a rude word and blanked it out! So what you do is get a skewer and push it many times into the spuds......
  • hehe, are jacket potatoes as good in the halogen ovens as a normal oven?

I do both depending on what I'm cooking but I probably use dishes more than direct onto the shelf. Certainly saves on cleaning the halogen, although that almost does itself anyway as you just add water and a little washing up liquid if greasy, turn the thermastat to wash/thaw and the timer to 10 minutes. Just need to empty the water away and dry the oven. Just wipe over the lid to clean it.

Now that is a bonus to cleaning a standard oven!
