It seems that Wessex Teak have a terrible reputation for hanging on to your money not delivering their products.

HOWEVER, if you turn out and pick the stuff up yourself is there a problem? i.e. What is the basic quality of their stuff like?

I am seriously thinking about buying a large extending teak garden table (2.0mtr to 3.0mtr x 1.2mtr wide) (probably plus a bunch of chairs).

    Am I mad?

i.e. Is there any problem with the furniture itself ??

(I would probably take cash, and a car with a good strong roof rack...)

    Hi Ship,
I still follow this thread with interest after we received our goods back in April, see my report on this page. The overall quality is very good,my wife and her dad said for the money it's unbeatable compared to the likes of B&Q etc.My advice is to collect in person if you can and inspect if possible before you depart there premises.Pay by cheque OR cc as you have some comeback.I suggest you visit late on a Saturday after the banks have closed,if you pay by cheque then you have all day Sunday to inspect it and in the event it is faulty then stop the cheque before they cash it.Do NOT pay cash...

Re: Wessex Teak still to be avoided 03.06.09

Wessex Teak spotted my review and emailed me. An exchange of emails ensued which resulted in a compromise- I would post this notice if they would swap 1 of the chairs. (With some work we can make the other one acceptable.)
Despite their earlier intransigence they suddenly agreed and the swap took place yesterday.
We would say the furniture set is now reasonable quality for the price. The table and 2 of the chairs are very good, its a pity the other 2 chairs do let it down a bit.

My advice to purchasers is do not take delivery without being home to inspect the goods before parting with your money. If you really have to, insist on paying by a method that will put you-not them -in the driving seat if you should have a problem. :o
  • Hi Guys

I had a table and chairs delivered on Friday (The delivery was all fine and as expected)

On inspection the table and 5 of the 6 chairs were damaged (Was the 1.5 m round table and 6 padi chairs), chair arm broken and cracks, rotten wood on table and some chairs

Spoke to the sales manager and he wanted photos of the damage (he was very courteous and polite).

Sent him the info and was told they would arrange collection and a full refund (this is what I asked for).

Called the office today to find out when they would collect, this is when things got very interesting.

I was insulted called a w&#ker on several occasions told that the furniture was not damaged etc..... the guys would not give me his name as he said I was not a customer and they had thrown my cheque away. (I cancelled cheque with bank just in case)

So do not use these guys everything said on this website about how bad they are is true and the furniture was very poor quality as well as being damaged..

    Hi,

It sounds like you had a very similar experience to us. Perfectly pleasant when reporting that the items were damaged - that is until you ask for a refund and then you get hurled abuse - they certainly use some very choice language - customer service is something they clearly do not understand! These are definately an outfit to avoid at all costs!!

You should report them to trading standards, I believe they have a large file of complaints!!

Anyone who is expecting an order from this bunch just be sure that you thoroughly inspect every item before the driver departs - once they have your cheque they express clear it and your complaint will not be dealt with!!
  • I wouldnt go anywhere near wessex teak again.
I bought a table and chair set. Delivery was a month after the promised date, chair pads took another 3 months to arrive.
The furniture is now only 5 months old and really starting to fall apart. Joints are splitting and the wood is cracking in many many places.
I have spoken to wessex teak many times and where i have not been sworn at like other people on this thread it seems that their answer to any question is to just hang up the phone. Please dont fall into the same trap as myself and other people are in. Do yourself a favour and buy from a reputable seller

  • I read the above reviews on the day my order was due to arrive and nearly had a heart attack, but as my experience is so vastly different from the above, I want to reassure anyone thinking of buying from Wessex Teak.

I was always able to get them on the phone and they were never less than helpful and very courteous. They also responded to e-mail really quickly.
I have found them to be a great company to deal with. I ordered on 15th july and received everything I ordered on 3rd august.
Admittedly, my original delivery date was delayed by 3 days due to complication with container at port, but on new delivery date I rang mid-morning to find out roughly when they were coming and was given driver's name and mobile number so I could call him directly - have never had a company who were willing to let you do that before.
The furniture is exactly as pictured on the website and feels really solid and good quality. The chairs and table did require a tiny bit of sanding and a wash down as there was a covering of sawdust and few splinters sticking up, but that is to be expected from transporting a natural product like wood. In a couple of places there was a tiny amount of mildew on the underside of the table - probably from being stored somewhere damp - but this is hardly a major problem, especially considering the price (673.00 for large oval table, 6 stacking chairs, 3mx2m parasol, chair pads and lazy susan) and the quality, which is much better than I have seen in garden centres or department stores.
I paid by cheque once I had inspected everything and was totally satisfied - the driver waited patiently while I looked at everything and certainly did not try to hurry me.
Maybe I have just been lucky, but based on my own experience I would recommend this company to anyone. I think the quality is great and for the price it is absolutely incredible (and for the record they do not seem to have express cleared my cheque as the money has still not left my account 4 days later).

Strange that your 1st ever post is singing the praises of this company everyone else has slated on a thread that hasn't had a post on for 6 weeks! . Maybe i'm just too cynical
