  • Hello this is my first post. I have been reading through all these and realise that others have been caught up in the lies this Company tells.

We are also waiting on an item and have spoken to Trading Standards today, so will go with their advice. Eight months since ordering.

I suppose I am lucky in that it's the first time this sort of thing has ever happened to us, but I am shocked that they actually seem to get away with it. I have also been on the receiving end of rudeness.

Good news when I googled them this thread comes up, hopefully others will do what I didn't...review the Company before ordering from their tempting website.
  • I ordered a bench from them on Saturday. Got an email from them which didn't specify any delivery date but said "cash on delivery". Luckily I read the feedback on here today so emailed them to cancel. Thanks everyone

    Hi,
Glad you cancelled.Just to let you know WT finally delivered on Good Friday, they were supposed to of phoned me 30 minutes before, they never did !.I had just stepped out of the shower around 10.00 and the door bell went.Lucky I heard it,the delivery driver seemed very miserable and didn't even say goodbye.Terry Everett from Essex Trading Standards called in person to there office a week before with my case and was told that I would have my goods on GF,I owe him a beer as if he had not intervened then I fear I would still be waiting now.I had given WT untill 18.00 on GF to deliver if not then I was two clicks away from taking them to court. On the invoice that the delivery driver left it stated hand written in the corner 'Trading Standards man' so they obviously got the message from me.After several phone calls and two recorded delivery letters we finally got our order.I have since destroyed all bills etc from them,I dont ever want to hear or see there name again !!!!
  • Purchased a garden set in May and was really pleased with most of it but 2 chairs were definitely faulty. Reported this and after a bit of delaying tactics on their side they agreed to collect and replace them so thought all was fine.
However, on the day they should have been replaced rang to check time of likely delivery and was informed they had randomly changed their minds-without telling us of course- and did not consider the goods faulty (they very definitely are) and would not collect them.
As a supposed good will gesture in an unsigned email they said I could take them to Essex (miles away) and swap them. As the email is unsigned I no longer trust this anyway. Not only did they break the terms and conditions of the sale, it was also breaking their earlier promise to replace. We respectfully asked the directors to reconsider and have heard nothing back.
In accordance with their preferred method of payment we paid by cheque on delivery without anyone being home. (They are happy to deliver without a signature.) Our cheque had of course cleared before we realised we were going to run into problems.
Having shopped successfully on the internet for more than 10 years this is the very first time I have experienced a problem. I obviously let my guard down. I urge others to be more careful.
It would seem the leopard has not changed his spots!

We too purchased a set of garden furniture from Wessex Teak. Extraordinarily long lead time for delivery and when we finally received it, the table and chairs were badly damaged - pretty much the same experience as many others on this thread! The customer service was beyond appalling. I would urge everyone considering buying from this company to beware and those people who have had a negative experience to report this to Trading Standards/Consumer Direct who are very interested in the practices of Wessex Teak.

We ordered and paid for a steamer chair at a cost of £85 from WT June 2008. After 2 deliveries that never happened we cancelled our order and asked for a refund, that would have been the start of July 2008. After many many letters, emails and phone calls we still have not received a refund! What else can I do? I guess a court claim is next. I cannot believe how many times I have been fobbed off when speaking to them.

    Hi,
I suggest you take the path I did,Consumer Direct. They are very helpful, first stage is all comunication from now is written and recorded.Give them 10 days to rectify the problem and if no joy a further letter with another 10 days with a court warning.CD will brief you more.Having not seen any further posts since mine back in April I thought WT had polished up there act, obviously not !

It seems that Wessex Teak have a terrible reputation for hanging on to your money not delivering their products.

HOWEVER, if you turn out and pick the stuff up yourself is there a problem? i.e. What is the basic quality of their stuff like?

I am seriously thinking about buying a large extending teak garden table (2.0mtr to 3.0mtr x 1.2mtr wide) (probably plus a bunch of chairs).

    Am I mad?

i.e. Is there any problem with the furniture itself ??

(I would probably take cash, and a car with a good strong roof rack...)

If you read through the thread there are definite quality issues with people who finally got their goods.
TBH (and you did ask) yes i'd say considering buying from these cowboys is madness.
    Don't do it!

  • Wessex Teak. My experience is that their furniture is good, but their ability to run the business is hopeless! They are probably too busy and the whole admin/delivery side is chaotic. Stuff gets part delivered, they promise delivery and don't stick to it. I imagine half their day is taken up fire fighting problems with customers. They are adept at making excuses and bullsh**ing.
Personally I wouldn't ever give them money up front, but to be fair they accept and recommend payment on delivery. Stick to this way of doing business with them and they are probably fine.
