I've been with legal & general for around 3 years.

When renewal comes in I go on to a comparison site. Legal and general seem to be cheapest on those every year. I call them up and they match the price I've seen on the comparison site. This year they've upped the renewal from £170 to £220. I've never made a claim.

This year she just said sorry we don't do that. So I cancelled the policy.

Legal and general are still cheapest on the comparison sites (more than are next and have a lower excess but when you click through and add home emergency it takes it up £5 despite the comparison site saying this is included - it's not).

Is it worth calling Megan and general again? Or should I just sign up with someone else?

  • I am trying to insure a flat for my daughter. Last year when she first bought the property she insured contents only as we were told that there was no need for her to have buildings insurance as it's a flat.

Could someone tell me what happens if she breaks a fixture and fitting, such as the bath or taps, or if the ceiling is damaged from a leak above. None of these things are covered by contents insurance.

Presumably she was told she didn't need her own policy as there was a block policy in place. Would it covers the points you mentioned?
  • I think the main buildings cover would only cover for joint areas such as the roof and walls and not individual things like bathroom suites as each flat is privately owned but I really don't know.

Are compare the market always dodgy?

I usually stick to money supermarket but have done all comparison sites this weekend.

They all send you an email with the quotes. Except compare the market have emailed quotes completely different to those that came up on their website. And when you click on them they revert to the original price.

Example. The cheapest is legal and general. Says £127 in the email. Click the link and it jumps to £169. So almost £50 more. Every quote in the email does the same.

    Is that normal for them?

I got my renewal quote from Aviva for contents only and it had gone up from £77 last year to £91. I looked on Confused.com and got a quote for £48, then rang Aviva. Without too much discussion, they offered me £71 instead.. Honestly.

I have very basic contents insurance on small rented house.

It's worth making a call to save some money even if you don't particularly want to change provider.

Not normally unless your partner is considerably younger than you.

It's best for a number of reasons to include your wife / partner as a joint policyholder

CTM work in exactly the same way as any of the proce comparrison sites out there. However CTM are now the biggest in the market and put a fair bit of pressure on the insurance providers to give them exclusive deals.

so, as it stands CTM will "probably" get you the cheapest deal out there....BUT just make sure you check your policy fully once you find the one that you want. Sometimes the providers "pay" for the price reduction by making the cover a little weaker. Plus you need to make sure what you type into CTM is exactly how it appears with the provider!
