  • Thanks MSE. I always use your guide each year and always save money for my home buildings/contents insurance.

For this year, I have saved approximately £70 per annum on my renewal quote by going to another supplier and I have got exactly the same cover.

Hi Mike and welcome to the forum.
I had to get MSE insurance help to chase them up and I am hopeful of my voucher any day now.
See my post at top of this page for info re this.
They will chase it up for you too :A

  • Hi,
I used the MSE link to the Legal and General in order to get the £70 M&S voucher. Compared to L&G quote I've had via Confused, the MSE quote is £248 rather than £124 - rather outweighing the benefits of the voucher! Are premiums loaded when these vouchers are offered? The actual cover offered is also considerably less via the MSE link.
    Thanks

    Hi mistasenior1

    Thanks for sharing your experience.

As the premium available via our blagged link should be competitive to that available via other channels (without taking in to account the voucher), it is concerning to hear of the large premium difference.

If you could please provide the L&G and Confused.com quotation reference (email: insuranceteam@moneysavingexpert.com), this would help us to question the discrepancy with the insurer.

Thanks again for sharing and I look forward to hearing from you.

Halifax £50 cashback received today...70 days promised but took 86 days. No problems otherwise. Didn't chase, just waited. Probably they don't count Christmas and New Year holidays. lol.

I am about to renew my Home insurance - any good cashback offers from MSE (or elsewhere) on the table?

Another Home Insurance saver for the year!

Churchill (current provider) wanted £72 renewal (up from last year by about £20) with £350 excess....

Privilage offered £65 for the same cover and £100 excess.

A 6 minute phone call to Churchill has seen them reduce my excess to match £100 and reduced the premium to £52. (Contents only, no extras or accidental covers; I need total loss type cover or theft).

OK, so no cashback (I did check!!) but its still a huge 37% saving!
  • Never thought I'd be able to brag about one of these, £103 quote with British Gas, £73 cashback so £30 a year overall!!
  • Hello,
I'm very familiar with shopping around, price comparing and bargain hunting for my insurance. Renewal date is not until 1st April but I like to be prepared. Of course this means that I haven't yet received my renewal price from my current provider.
However, in the last year my husband has started building himself some road bikes. One of these is already insured via current provider but now he has 2. Well, 3 if you include his mountain bike.
He has already looked into separate bike insurance via specialist bike insurers and it would cost an arm and a leg. He already has public liability insurance through his membership with a cycling club so that's not an issue either.
I just wanted to see whether anyone knew of any insurers that might specialise in insuring bikes as well as regular buildings and contents cover that wouldn't cost an arm and a leg.
I feel I'm slightly biased against paying high amounts as I'm such a saver and also they're not my bikes, so I have less of a vested interest. However, I am the keeper of the finances and if hubby wants his bikes covered outside the house (so only one at a time there) and inside the house I need to make sure I don't let him down. He seems to be more concerned about somebody breaking in and stealing his bikes.

Anyway I think I'm digressing. Does anyone have any experience in insuring expensive road bikes as a specified item on a regular house insurance policy?
    Any advice gratefully received.
