T-Mobile price increase for 08xx numbers

I've just this second had a txt from T-Mobile advising as of the 28th of July, they will be increasing the price of calls to 08xx numbers.

The details have been listed here:-
http://www.t-moible.co.uk/services/uk/08/

This means my normal calls will jump 100% from 10p a minute to 20p a min! (apparently this is under Ofcom guidelines)

Now, I think the T-Mobile contact states:

[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif] (2)(c)(iii) you must tell us if you want to cancel this agreement or a SIM card. You may have to pay a cancellationcharge if cancel within a SIM card’s minimum period (see 2(c)(i) and (ii)). A cancellation charge is not payable if you are cancelling because:
(A) our entitlement to operate the network ends; or
(B) we want to increase a charge to you and the increase, (when calculated as a percentage) will be more than the increase in the Retail Prices Index Figure, the RPI (also calculated as a percentage) for the 12 months before the month in which we send you notice of the increase (see 4(g)). We will tell you if the increase will be more than the increase in the RPI. You must tell us you want to cancel before the increase happens.

But I've got no idea if we can cancel our contacts early because of this change and if the Retail Price Index Figure effects us or not.

Anyone have any ideas?

Cheers

CP.

My increase is the same 100%.

and i doubt that the RPI has increased by 100% so i would think that i can cancel.

I remember when they started charging for itemised bills and this was above the RPI. Never have I heard more lies and deceit from a call centre when I called to kill the contract.
  • Just had the same text from T-Mobile and was wondering the same if I could cancel my contract due to a change in T & C's

has anyone tried?,i think its shocking that you go into a contract and they up the prices by 100%,we should be either able to cancel our contracts as its now different from what we agreed or we should get double our minutes if we have to pay double the price!!

i am definately going to try and cancel mine!!!
  • I've just been reading my through my Terms and Conditions and cant see how they can refuse as the RPI up to may is only 4.3% and they are going to increase the charges by 100%.

Might give them a call myself

i have given them a call for an hour to argue this, but they say because it is dialling a 3rd party number e.g a helpline, they have the right to change the price by as much as they wanted. she even advised me to go onto saynoto0870 to not use them numbers.

I don't buy that at all. Many company's have 0870,0845,0844 numbers these days what if you are ringing them?

Unless they stipulated that they can increase 08 numbers by as much as they want and other numbers only by the rpi they're shafted. i'd like to know where it says they can increase their prices for these numbers as much as they want.

advised you to go to saynoto0870??? thats upto you. not t-mobile.

I never heard such a bunch of rubbish - its still a service which they provide and they are increasing the price of said service. I think, under the T's & C's it doesn't specifically stipulate the difference between 3rd party number or not so why would it be any different to a local number?

Ive just had this text myself and logged into here to see the outcome.

Ive been trying to leave T-Mobile for a few months now but with 12 months left on my contract they want £249 to cancel!

Maybe this new change can help me bargain a little?
    HUKD Sucks! :D
