Hi Symesd, not going to bad at present, only had 2 letters so far accepting my DMP from Northern Rock and RBS, my bank not my credit cards as yet. other than that all is really alls quiet, phone calls have stopped, dont know why maybe its the lull before the storm!
I also have EGG, Marbles(HFC bank), Capital One, and Mint.
Egg ,Cap ONE, RBS cards and Mint have all defaulted me but dont know if they're accepting the DMP. The way I see it is they've got 2 choices but there ain't no more money either way!
Keep posting and updating it's great to have support.
Good luck with the car!

Isn't it wierd how creditors behave differently towards different customers. I never received a letter from Additions and I've been going for a while now. At least they've stopped interest though.DMP Mutual Support Thread Member No 19017/05/08 - Total on DMP: £10025.7007/05/14 - Total on DMP: £1666.20 DFD: July 2017!!Baby Tomos born 5th June 2009 - 6lb 5oz :jWeight Loss Target - to lose 60.8lb by NYE 2015 - 37.6lb TO GO0 -
Hello everyone .... can I join the DMP club please??!!!!
After some advice from a fabulous lady at the CAB I have filled in an online form with CCCS and they recommend a DMP, which will take about 6 years to get me debt-free (fingers crossed sooner!!!)
I have opened a new bank account today, over the phone, with Lloyds and am waiting for their forms to sign before I give the new account details to work for my salary payments. The day I do that, I can phone the landlord, elec/gas, council tax, water rates, insurance company and tv licence place to change all my direct debits.
I will have to wait to get the stuff from CCCS to find out what I'm supposed to do next, and when my DMP will be due to start ... do I make payments to my creditors in the meantime? Most of the next payments are due or or around 5th November and they will have no idea this is coming as I've always made minimum payments before and not gone into arrears with anything.... My problem has been increasingly using credit cards as my partner (who is schizophrenic) has struggled more and more with work. He will work for a couple of weeks then not be able to leave the house for a few more weeks. He got quite a steady job and I managed to not use the cards for a while, but then he was laid off and the cards just spiralled up again. He's now been laid off again and there's no more work on the horizon. I know I just can't go on like this and it has to stop....
The creditors I'm going to have chasing me are these - anyone have any experience of these???
Barclaycard
Lombard (loan and credit card)
Egg credit card
Post Office credit card
Abbey National (credit card and overdraft)
Tesco visa credit card
I'm very nervous about what's ahead ... I'm not used to phone calls and stuff like that. I'm steeling myself to be firm with them!!!!DMP Mutual Support Thread member 244

Sorry I have missed so many new people starting so if anyone wants a number just yell! You don't need one to take part but some people like one and it does show we are defiantely not alone.0 -
Hi Skint, and welcome to the thread! You'll find lot's of advice here so don't worry, you are starting your journey to be debt free
.
Most people stop their payments to creditors once they've decided to start a DMP - it gives you a chance to put some money aside for an "emergency fund" for when you get started and have to live without credit. You might want to make token payments (£1 will do) as a gesture of goodwill - when you send in your form letters from cccs (they'll come with your welcome pack) you could include a postal order, or some of us lazier souls just use online banking!. You choose the start date of your DMP (always 1st of a month)- if you've just signed up, then December 1st would allow you time to put some money aside.
About phone calls- you can choose to ignore them, especially if you are feeling low as they can be bullying and you don't need any additional stress right now! There's some great letter templates floating around here which request all communication to be in writing (it's your right under OFT rules), if you want to do that just shout and I'll find them.
A common trick they use is to send you a letter demanding payment within 7 days of the date of their letter - and you don't get the letter until after the deadline! I just got one of those from Citibank (dated 30/9 with 7 days to pay!). Other than daily phonecalls (unanswered!), this is the first I've heard from them - my DMP started October 1st so they have not received any money at all from CCCS yet.
Anyway I'm rambling now so I'll stop!
Rayday will be along soon to give you a DMP support thread number!
Best of luck, keep posting!

Hello all, been thinking of this DMP thing for a while now but the whole thing scares me. I spoke to someone before (a company that charge the earth) and they made it sounds nice but when tey tell you to stop paying your bill and let the red letters come though it scares the living daylights outta me.
At the mo we have never not been able to pay a bill but left with pittence by the end of the month. our main bank is natwest (also a loan) and also lol fighting a PPI reclaim with them over a loan we paid off last year. so i know we'd have to open an account else where but i have heard that natwest are not very nice during the DMP.
reading what you all have been saying is reasureing and i know it's gunan take time but hey our loan we started last year is for another 7years so we know were in it for the long haul.
oh forgot to mention that our debts are about £24,000. i know there are many other that are worse off and i really feel for everyone in the same boat.
Thanx guys Kelly:male: 2 Beautiful Boys :male::beer: Not uptomyeyes anymore thanx MSE & friends for all your help:beer:0 -
I really think there should be better procedures for defaults and DMPs that would make it fairer for us and the companies it would be nice to see a set route of what happens
Couldn't agree more Rayday, so far Great Universal (Littlewoods) who I have been a very good customer in the past for over ten years in fact, has sent me letter after letter threatening this and that from at least three different collection centre addresses I am sure.
Lloyds TSB wanted to know everything about me apart from the colour of knickers I wear to sort out my loan payments and Halifax can't tell their aorta from their elbow!!:rotfl:
Joking aside I know the letters I have received are from the 'in-house' debt collectors but the comunication is really appalling in these situations. It's so confusing who to deal with and who to write to.
I think there should be set rules; after three payments missed that's it, ppi is cancelled, you shouldn't have to beg to get this cancelled on your own account and your details are passed on to the in-house DCA, not have all this 'phone immediately to discuss your account' or threats of a debt collector calling to your house.
Tell people in language they understand, don't use jargon and get rid of the cocksure nasties at DCA's like Mackenzie Hall. People have committed suicide over debt, we have all read the stories in the newspapers, how many were over the kind of letters or phonecalls they'd received over their debt payments?
This situation really needs to be looked at and as for ppi, well I'm surprised there hasn't been a national outcry about this. I have read up on this service and to say it's a rip off is a very big understatement. It really is an outrage it's provided at all. :mad:DMP support thread member 211 :cool:I'm only here to get some medals......honest!0 -
Hi uptomyeyes1984
Welcome to the dmp support thread, as you can see you are'nt alone
It is scary at first doing the dmp thing but i can honestly say that for me and I know many others on here its the best thing i've done in a long time.
Whatever you do don't pay any company to do it for you , go to one of the charities like cccs for advice in the first instance. They are really helpful and totally non judgemental and will help you make sense of things.
Good luck.DMP Support Thread Member 238DMP started October 20080 -
Hi all
I have a couple of questions. I have started on a DMP (1st Oct) myself with the help of the CCCS. I have recieved all the paperwork from them and sent them off to my creditors with a pro rota payment attached. They are MBNA, Citi egg and halifax. all credit cards. I have had a letter from MBNA who have asked me to ring them, so I did and they will not look at my account until they have my OH's income. I have spoken to CCCS about this and they have said stick to your guns and you don't have to give them that info. I rang MBNA again and I explained this to them. They are still not listening to me that I do not want to include my OH's income on the form. Can anyone suggest what I can do next. I have also recieved a letter from the Halifax saying to ring them as well. Will this happen with the Halifax as I don't really want to ring them I would rather write to them. could anyone point me in the right direction of what kind of letter I can send them.

HI guys AGAIN, I am in a really chatty mood tonight! :j
Kudox - well said, starting out on a DMP is scary as hell especially when you have been a decent customer with these companies. But I second what you said and a DMP is the best thing that has happened to alot of people here, our only regret apart from spending all the money of courseis not getting it sorted out sooner. Thank god for this site!
Symesd - I enjoyed reading your post, interesting to see how creditors can treat each customer so differently isn't it?
Skintandscared - The worrying stops now, no longer will you have to juggle payments, overdrafts and cards every month, wait til you see your account in credit and have real cash to spend at the end of the month, there is no better feeling (well apart from eating Cadbury's chocolate of course!)
Rabbit in the headlights - haha sorry had to laugh about the creditor letters you received I have had exactly the same. Today OH had a letter asking for his credit card to be returned by September 16th and I had a letter asking for full payment by October 6th!! Is it just me thinking that creditors have trouble with calendar dates? :rotfl:
Uptomyeyes - Kelly best of luck, stay way clear of any company who can promise a quick fix out of your debt (they are advertising on the radio at the minute) and offer nothing else that can't be done for free. Try the National Debtline, Payplan and CCCS websites for information.
Stay good people, that fat fella in the red suit will be coming soon! :rotfl:DMP support thread member 211 :cool:I'm only here to get some medals......honest!0
