  • Don't get caught out with the "FREE" TomTom upgrade. I spent £200 on a TomTom One in the summer but didn't get round to using it. Wasn't told that you had a limited period to get the free upgrade. Even though I had bought a system that was brand new it was still 2 versions out of date. Couldn't get an upgrade. TomTom refused to do anything to help. Not impressed. Won't deal with them again.
  • I've just bought a refurbished Tomtom One V3 with maps of west Europe for £74.74 from totalPDA. I'm very pleased with it. I've upgraded to the latest software and maps and speed cameras (free) and also managed to get free postage & packing using a voucher code. (Forgotten what it was now - sorry - search for 'totalpda voucher code').

Refurbs are carried out by Tomtom and come with the same packaging and guarantee as a new unit. Mine looks perfect - you'd never know it wasn't new. Totalpda have other refurb models too.
  • I bought the Navigo V2 sat Nav and what a great little unit, if you look at the Help pages on E Buyer there are tips on getting other software onto the unit (Tom Tom V7.45 being one of them) and that works extremely well. Definitely recommended.

Hi, couple of questions please, as I'm currently tempted by a TomTom One v4 and the Navigo v2.

    1. Does the TomTom One v4 come with speed camera information built in?
    2. Can you upadate the maps, and speed camera information for free on the Navigo v2?

I've got to be honest, even though it's twice as expensive, I'm really tempted by the TomTom right now, the build quality looks a lot better and I love the new design for mounting it onto the windscreen; I think that'd be really handy to be honest.

... however! Free updates and free speed camera information may sway me to the Navigo (with TomTom software) - especially if the TomTom One v4 doesn't have the speed camera database as standard.
  • I was looking to buy a sat nav and I noticed that amazon was apparently cheaper. After looking through what they offer, once you have added the basic accessories i.e. case & mounting bracket, you bill is £99.

However if you buy from ebuyer you get it all in the package deal at £101.85 plus you get the Europe software for free.

So I think I am going with ebuyer, you get Europe software for less than £3, I think its worth it.
  • description of a sat nav often says you need a subscription to up date speed camera listing. It looks as if the annual cost is a much as the sat nav again. Is there any poroiblem in buying a sat nav with speed camera warnings and not updating it. e.g. if you don't subscribe, do you lose the warnings or can you use them but they gradually go outy of date??
  • Why not just obey the speed limits? That way you don't need to pay to update the speed camera files.

Damn, the forum lost my post! I'm a very steady driver as it's safer and more economical, but for example there's a speed camera very close to where I live in the middle of no where, just as it changes from a 60mph to a 30mph zone, with nothing but trees around, it catches so many people out, no matter how safe a driver they are.

On a side note, bumping this as I want to order today if possible, cheers :D

  • DH bought me the new TomTom last September, from our local Halfords. Widescreen, Europe etc. They helped us set it up. Off we went. It steadfastly refused to let us use an A road or Mway. Took me on a 2 mile detour of the town, where 400yds would have got me to where I wanted to go. We even followed instructions and went up someone's drive! We took it back, they reset and we tried a known route. It takes me 45 minutes and TT 2.5 hours, again, only up dirt tracks and country lanes. They replaced it (2 week wait) and the 2nd one we had squeeled all the time, couldn't find any satelites and then when it did, played the same country lane game. Took it back and eventually got a refund after much arguing with managers etc. It put me off TT. I would like a reliable sat nav. Was i unlucky or have a high % worse navigational skills than me? Will Amazon take it back if I get another duff sat nav? I live near Weston-s-Mare, not in the middle of nowhere.
  • I have 2 Garmin sat navs. One for my car and one for my wifes. The maps now need to be upgraded / updated. To my astonsihment, evn they areboth registered. It will cost me over £100 to update both.

Thats lots seeing as what I can buy a new one for. I have spopken with Garmin and they says thats it! Maybe they could look at rewarding loyalty with a slight reduction.

    But they are good units!
