  • I too have been scammed by the sounds of it for 2 purchases even though I only authorised 1. I have cancelled my debit card, notified my local police, and requested a chargeback. I ordered on the 9th June so referring to Dinah's article I am hoping I might get my money back. I have never had a problem will purchasing online as I am normally very careful with who I purchase from....... it got me this time :-(
  • Well I have been to my bank today - Natwest. They were helpful spoke to several different departments, who advised me to go to Trading Standards and see what they advise as they can't do a chargeback as I used a Meastro card.

I phoned Consumer Direct who advised that I send a recorded delivery letter to Zavvi Direct at their registered address to see if anyone signed for it. Don't see what good that will do as I doubt anyone will sign for it, even if they did it doesn't help me get my money back.

If anyone has any luck with their banks in getting a refund who used a debit card, could you please let me know what they did as my bank are happy for me to go back to them with more information.

    Thanks
  • I bank with Natwest and was able to complete a chargeback form as advised by the fraud team. I think Natwest staff need generic training as many customers are being told different advice and action to take. Hope this helps Karen

Thank you very much for that, they did start filling out that chargeback form, then started ringing around.

Did you go into your bank or ring them up?

Will be back down the bank in the morning!!

  • I was advised by Natwest's fraud team on the telephone to do a chargeback and then I went into my branch to fill out the form which they then send off. How useful it will be I don't know, until their internal department who deals with it recevices it! Only did it yesterday but I have the top copy which clearly states 'Switch/Cirrus/Maestro chargeback'. So not sure why they said you can't do one? Argue with them lol

I also bank with Natwest but I have been told by fraud dept that they cannot do anything as we willing gave our debit card details to Zavvi Direct. I also contacted Trading Standards who put me onto the Consumer Credit people who told me to send recorded letter which i did tonight. least then it shows that we have tried to contact them. I guess if TS get enough people contacting them they will do something, when i spoke to my local at lunchtime they said i was the first to call them, there are other things they can do to try and get the monies back i think if the company doesnt respond, and i guess if Sussex Police are interviewing the company directors then maybe we will get a refund. there must be something that we can do, as bank doesnt seem to be interesting, i have also contacted protx who werent interested either and reckoned that they had spoken to the company and they were going to send all the orders out, tbh heard so much about it on the net , gonna try and hope that they sort it and i do get a refund, will let you all know if anything else happens, oh and also spoke to Hants police so they are also aware of it if anyone else is in hants x

nightmare, last time i buy something over the net with my debit card, least with a cc you have some protection!

You do have some protection with debit cards (Visa) up to 120 days

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/working_lunch/7347146.stm

Customers can ask for a Visa chargeback from their bank if the goods they receive are damaged, do not arrive, or if they do not get the service paid for.
  • Hi Suezi, I was also told that, therefore the bank will not refund our monies however a chargeback is, I believe but not sure, (please advise if anyone knows any different) an attempt to reclaim the money from the trader and if the money is on hold for purchases made after 8th June as Dinah suggests then we should be able to get it back. The bank's fraud team told me to fill out this form in my local branch.

I had a call this evening from my local trading standards who are in contact with sussex trrading standards and the situation is being investigated. The more pressure people put on to banks, trading standards and companies like protx the better.

I would like to say a very big thank you to Dinah for all your work you have done regarding this matter so far, piled on top of the other matter you have to report on it must be exhausting. Without your findings and information I doubt I would have got my money back.

I asked Zavvi for a refund on 16/06...obviously didn't come through, couldn't contact the company, Protx weren't helping and my bank weren't very interested shrug.gif

After reading about Zavvi's business account being frozen I was straight down my bank armed with prints of Dinah's articles, useful messages from forum pages and e-mails from Zavvi and Protx. I aksed to make a fraud claim against Zavvi and asked for a chargeback. My bank, Halifax, immediately refuded me the £69.99 and sent a fraud claims form to the relevent team to be investigated. If they find that I am not eligible for the claim then they can take the money back but I doubt that very much.

After all the hassle I've had in the past few weeks over this I managed to buy a Wii Fit for the normal price from Game in Canary Wharf (my work place) on Tuesday...if only I waited... icon_rolleyes.gif

I hope everyone else has joy in getting their money back, all I can say is don't let your bank fob you off and show them prints of anything relevant to this matter i.e. Dinah's articles and correspondence from Zavvi.
