I am very familiar with York (live not too far away) so if anyone wants any help/directions just ask........I could send you a map by fax for example.

You will struggle to park in York, don't even try ::). If you're travelling by car, use the park and ride.

The train station and bus station are both quite close to the hostels on Micklegate and Bishophill Senior.....not sure which one you'll be staying at.

If you can afford the price/time............try to make it a two night visit/stay. There is so much to see and do in York.

hello Nile! Is the park and ride expensive? someone was talking about park and ride schemes on another thread for a different area and saying it was something like eight pounds, not being familiar with park and ride I have not idea if this is expensive or not or even a ballpark figure for york. I need to weigh up the trip from aunty agnes (yes really) in barnsley into york in terms of duration and cost so an idea of the park and ride fee would be useful if you dont mind!

    YORK - PARK & RIDE

There are five park & ride sites around York.  The following details are for Vanoonoo, if anyone is travelling to York from a different direction........ask me for directions/help.

    BARNSLEY TO YORK

    Take the M1 north.
    The M1 becomes the A1(M)
On the A1(M), at junction 45 take the A64 (towards York) turnoff
The Askham Bryan park & ride is clearly signed.
Parking your car is free, the bus is £1.80 return.
The bus goes to the York bus station but don't get off, stay on the bus until the next stop at Rougier Street.  This will take you closer to the Hostel.
The walk from Rougier Street to Micklegate will take 2 minutes.

    SHOPPING

As well as Lakeland and the usual shops in York, there is also a McArthur Glen Outlet just outside York on the A64..........it's a bit further along from the Askham Bryan park & ride but might be worth a detour/visit.

    Hi All

I owe you all a big apology for not being around over the last week, unfortunatley sickness has kept me away from work & the internet!
To date I have only received cheques from Caterina & Ssaver? Is anyone else interested in comming & able to confirm by sending their cheques this week? We really need to get the hostel booked ASAP now.

    Cheers

I'm coming, so make that 4! But I don't need a hotel, so I don't need to send a cheque, or do I?
