Who's going to YORK?  Old Style gathering: Poll

Hi

I have been asked by Fran to start this thread to try and see if it is feasible to have an early 2005 gathering of the Old Stylers!

Please enter the following info:

1- Where will you be coming from (not necessarily the full postal address, but the area is sufficient)?

2 - How far are you prepared to travel?

3 - In and back home in one day, or overnighter?

4 - List the towns that are best for you to meet in (keeping in mind that we all come from all over the place, so try to keep it central-ish please).

5 - In which month do you think it should happen?

Thank you all. Let's make it happen!

Caterina
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

    My replies:

    1- London

2 - Up to 4 hours each way

3 - Either. In and out in 1 day preferred though.

4 - York, Leeds, Cardiff, Bristol, Birmingham (not in order preference as any of these would be ok for me).

5 - Mid March 2005, on a Saturday or Sunday

    York , Sheffield or Coventry

160 , would the fact that there's a Lakeland shop in York encourage you to press for a meet in that city?  ;D

    ;D nice one 160!

    Now, my answers:

    1) Cambridgeshire

    2) 4 or 5 hours

    3) overnighter! Any excuse to find a cheap hotel/find a friend to bunk on their floor.

    4) York, Birmingham, Newcastle, Coventry, Bristol, Cardiff, Worcester (cos it's quite pretty!) - all in no particular order.

    5) March/April 2005.

4 hours (which on a good run could mean Scarborough!)

I think an overnight could be fun if we all stay in the same place, would try to make either

Sheffield, Leeds, Manchester, but consider anywhere

    March would be ok

    Thanks Caterina :)

So far it looks like York is a nice place to meet - is anyone able to investigate cheap sleeping places? At a push I can sleep at a relative's near Doncaster but if a group of us get a nice cheap room I'd be happy to do the sleepover!

I know that not far from the Minster there is a couple of cheap-ish sleeping places, one is a cheap hotel the other is a hostel.

The fact that there is a Lakeland shop in York definitely tipped the balance for me!

Ok starting with a hostel-type room, if we can get at least 8 of us it would be cheaper! If we can do 20, it is very cheap!

and another with nice discount before 31st March:

Both with kitchen so we can cook for dinner and save money and have a really nice meal in all together!

Will look for more - but hotels, even when really cheap, do not have a kitchen so it would make it more expensive if we had to go out for dinner.
