plenty of travelodges and travel inns in york, make sure you all do a ghost walk, they are amazing as they take you around the old york... if your into history a ghost tour is a must.

Just asked husband and he says about 40 mins by car. You should be able to get a train easily toohowdy - does anyone know how far york is from barnsley and what the transport links are like? tia.

trains into york are good. and the station is slap bang in the middle of town... er city ;-)
so get off the train and wander for about 5 mins and your in town.
Bus links are quite good also, i think you can get bus timetables online for york.
make sure you use the park and rides, they are much cheaper than car parks.
i will put bus link on here if i find it..
