I only made it because DH was not going to be around for tea as he hates anything with cooked cheese. It was so yummy that I think I may be making it again this week
Especially as I bought some extra mature cheddar to get my extra Clubcard points

I've just got the yearly settlement bill through from N-Power. Thanks to really thinking about what we use and how we use it theyare reducing our monthly electricity direct debit from £79.50 to £60 a month. We still have a way to go and I have yet to recieve the gas one but that's a massive £20 a month saved. I can't believe we've done so well
Urghhh why do I always get a cold shudder whenever I hear of anyone using N-Power _pale_
Maybe because every person I've ever known who had them supplying electric were massively overcharged and had inherent problems in trying to sort it all out and get any sort of refund, not to mention the con tricks they try and pull on the doorstep to make you sign up to them
You sound to be paying an awful lot for your electric moggins, although obviously I don't know how big your house is or how many electrical applainces you normally run, but my monthly electric and gas payments combined don't even come to that! ... on average I pay £50 a month for both.
I know I'm only in a 2 bed flat, but I do use a lot more electricity than most in powering all the heat/light supplies for my reptile vivs, and in winter my gas CH is on 24/7, albeit on low, to maintain a regular ambient temperature, especially overnight.
Have you been over to the utility boards to see if there are any cheaper suppliers in your area? I know Martin says it's not a good time to switch at the moment whilst everyone is messing around with charges, but it would be good to start investigating cheaper sources"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

Queenie wrote::hello: Goooooooood Morning
It's "smelly day" today :j :j
Last night I made some cinnamon and clove bags to decorate a swag for the kitchen - I've loosely tied them on so I can pick them off individually as and when I need them. (Great for scenting the house! Just pop one in some simmering water ... smells divine!). No one is going to notice the scent today though, because the bread machine is almost ready with Sultana and Cinnamon Loaf
Making 'smelly socks' for the wardrobes(A house can't have too many smelly socks
Today's mealplan is:
B: Porridge
L: Carrot Soup (hm)Chicken Casserole
Fabric pumpkins almost complete, so I'll finish those off today :j
Library later.
Have a wonderful weekend
TM - Sorry you didn't get the good nights sleep you planned
PP - Sorry to hear you had a bad night too
Have a good weekend Queenie. Your cinammon and clove bags sound delicious! Can just smell them.
The parcel from Oz was great fun and I have been good and only opened the calendars. It's a long while to wait to see the other presents though. Hope I can be disciplined and not peep. Have to hide them somewhere out of sight.
Auntie at 94 was in great form. Sad about her memory but she has great wit. Said to me 'bad enough when you lose your memory but worse when your looks go too'!
She is still pretty bless her and has wonderful white hair which her daughter makes sure is neat and regularly tended by the hairdresser. She had loads of cards and special greetings from her son in Australia. He phoned too but Auntie can't remember that.
Have a good weekend everyone and hope all those not feeling good are improving as the day goes on.0 -
Thanks TM for a cheerful start to the day
I don't post every day on this thread as I don't always have any tips or anecdotes to add, but since Queenie first started the diary thread with the aim of Old-Stylers pooling ideas etc for the day, I've read it each day,
I know there was some opposition to having chatty posts/threads in Old Style but pooling them all into one inspirational thread seems to be working really well, it certainly gives me a cosy feeling, sitting down and reading what everyone is up to, and reading the tips people post not because they are moneysaving but just because they may be useful and will cheer someones day

I agree, this is the thread that gets me motivated every morning.
CQ I am completely in agreement with you but until we finally had a bill that wasn't demanding yet more money off us I couldn't afford to switch. Now we are finally in credit I am going to wait a couple of months until we get our £50 duel fuel bonus and then start looking around. I keep getting people at the door at the moment and tell them to go away as I will use U switch when I want to moveOrganised people are just too lazy to look for things

That's definitely a good idea and by then things should have sorted themselves out amongst the various companies and you'll be in a better place to switch
I had someone call round from Npower a few weeks ago, but luckily I'd only poked my head out the window to see who it was rather than answer the door, so I could quickly escape his spiel by closing the window... and being as I'm on the first floor he didn't have a hope in hell of getting my attention back once he mentioned who he was :rotfl:

I couldn't agree more. I rarely post on this thread because I feel that I have little to add that would inspire other oldstylers. But I do find other posters to be a great inspiration and their posts help me to get motivated every morning.
Thank you all.
