Anyway, I have just been looking for a 'cure' and removal by Duct Tape seems popular and very MSE, has anyone had a go at this and does it work?
Interested - how does duct tape get rid of it?0 -
Hi Android, must say I am very disappointed for you. I can't imagine why it didn't work for you. Did you follow the regime religiously? Keeping it covered at all times with the tape tightly stuck over the verrucas (i.e. no air holes at all?)
PaulFoel - duct tape works by depriving the verrucas of air and stopping them from 'breathing'0 -
Hi
Yes - did it to the letter, always had the tape on. just freaked me out when more started appearing. i dont know, maybe as i am trying to kill off the main one- its sort of breaking out in other places as a last attempt to spread - hahahHi Android, must say I am very disappointed for you. hello everybody. iam a Podiatrist (chiropodist:rolleyes:) and treat these little blighters on a daily basis
there are different "types" of verrucae s-each from a different strain of the HPV virus. the virus lives in the outer layers of the skin. hidden away.
by "introducing" (i cut then till they bleed:D) the virus to the immune system the body can then heal itself. for this reason i always recommend that my patents take a multi vitamin and mineral supplement during treatment to help give the immune system a boost.
the pros and cons of treatments vary widely-but i get my best results from acid. i use very strong acids that are not available to the public.
my dissertation was on treatments of verrucae including duct tape and the results from the literature is still unpredictable resolution. BUT all the treatment methods are unpredictable. with only approx 60% success rates for all the treatments currently available.
go see a pod we have the best treatments.
people who don't know how they get them?? think of all those lovely shoes in shoe shops you try on. don't do it people. thats not all you can catch.susiesue

My grandad always said to me 'never walk around barefoot, you catch all kinds of diseases through your feet' and we always laughed at him and said he was mental, and LOOK he was right!!0

Hi, just wanted to say that I'm currently using the duct tape method on a large (thumbnail sized) 'cluster' type verucca that I've had for over 20 years and it has now almost disappeared completely! Previously I have tried over the counter medications, a year of chiropody including many sessions of cryotherapy (freezing the verucca), using neat tea tree oil (which I became allergic to and ended up with very painful blisters over half the underneath of my foot!) and also ignoring it for years - nothing made any difference until now. I finally went to my GP in August 09 as the verucca was starting to be quite uncomfortable and he gave me a prescription for some very expensive, very nasty stuff and also a factsheet on using duct tape. I thought I may as well try the tape method before using the strong medication and I'm glad I did. It has taken quite a while - 6 months so far - but it has been completely pain free and only takes about 10 mins once a week (plus 5 minutes to reapply tape if it falls off in the meantime) and now my verucca has almost disappeared entirely. The method on the factsheet is as follows:-
Cut enough silver duct tape (other tape will do as long as it doesn't let the light or air in) to cover the verucca/s completely.
Optional - I found I needed to cover the duct tape with Hypafix dressing retention tape (other breathable plaster type stuff would do) to hold the tape on as my verucca was not on a flat place and the tape kept coming off.
Leave on for 6 more days & put a new piece of tape on every time it falls off before the 6 days is up.
On the 6th day, take the tape off during a shower or bath, leave foot uncovered overnight and on the 7th day put more tape on, covering with dressing retention tape if needed. eg Start tape on Sunday, leave on til Saturday, soak and leave off overnight, reapply tape on Sunday etc.
Sometime between taking tape off and applying new tape (factsheet suggests when you take tape off, I prefer to do it when it's dry the next morning), gently file verucca to remove dead skin, but not enough to make it sore (I then wipe the area with an antiseptic wipe to get rid of the dust and hopefully not let it spread.) (You may notice a very strong 'cheesy foot' smell - don't worry, this is just due to the lack of air on that bit of foot!)
Repeat cycle until verucca has gone, but be patient as this may take weeks/months!
It is a nuisance to have to keep to the routine, but you do get used to it, it doesn't hurt or take very long and it's certainly worth it in the end.0 -
Serious, this method of Duct Tape works! I had a Verruca on the bottom of my foot (quite large and deep and stubborn!) I tried everything on it fo about 2 years, freezing, Salicylic Acid the lot, nothing helped and all were extremely painful!!!!
I tried this Duct Tape method, it took a few weeks. You just place it over the Verruca & replace it when you need to. Cut it to a slightly bigger size than the Verruca, It has worked!!! GONE!!!!0 -

I had one as a kid and it took some getting rid of. Mine I think came from the swimming baths.
Anyone who wonders how they've got one - tanning salons? I'd hazard a guess they're hotspots for "verrucadom".0 -
My daughter has had a verruca on the heal of her foot for the last 3 - 4 years. we have tried several times to get rid of it by using bazzuca etc but failed. Then last year she started getting loads of verrucas appearing all over her foot. Anywhere between 50 and 70 I would guess. Went to the doctor who said that we should continue with the same old treatment and that there were too many to freeze. wasn't happy with the response so went to see a chiropdist (£30 a session) who cut away dead skin and froze the largest one using a spray. My daughter (aged 16) was in agony for several days. Went back and it hadn't gone so the chiropodist used a strong acid, again she was in pain and by now really upset, her feet looked worse than ever (wish I had taken a photo) The verruca still hadn't gone so we left it well alone for a couple of months and there seemed to be more appearing. Then my husband heard about the duct tape idea on the radio so I looked it up online, found this forum and we decided to give it a go. My daughter covered her foot in duct tape (almost all the bottom of her foot with lots of small pieces) and held it in place with surgical tape. Showered with a sock on her foot to keep the tape in place. Kept the tape on Sunday to Saturday but on Saturday she took it off, showered and used a boots hard skin removal stone (white but like pumice), the skin looked white and spongy but was still hard to remove. Left the tape off over night until Sunday. She repeated and after about 3 weeks we started to see a real difference. This week (week 5) we can't see one!!!:) The tape has gone back on to be on the safe side but we really think they have gone.
Give it a go!0
