Removing Verruca with Duct Tape?

  • Hi. Cringe, yes  I have to manage to detatch myself when I am tending to my son's size 7s every night.

He is now wearing swim socks but I think the general consensus is that if you already have verrucas it does not really matter as the germ in already in the environment. However, I think they are good if you DON'T have verrucas rather than if you do. You will then not pick up anything in the changing rooms, where I think the problems are, rather than in the pool itself.

My 8 year old has had a verruca on his heel for about 3 years now. I've been to the doctors, used the stuff and it didn't work. I took him back and she said that eventually it will go on it's own and not to use anything on it. It's starting to go a little but the skin feels quite hard.

Pinkpig I keep reading that 'they will eventually go on their own' but well, mine have been getting worse and still there in force nearly 6 years on, and I think there's another on the side of my heel where I can't see properly.

I've had a verucca on the heel of my foot for....must be years. I can't remember not having it tbh! Have tried everything from going to the doctor, bazuka, wartners, you name it, but the little blighter just won't go :(
It's not painful, and doesn't really give too much trouble. It's pretty much resigned myself to it always being there.
Mind you, now I've heard of this duct tape method, I may well give that a go and see if it helps any. I'm a tad ashamed of my foot if anyone sees it :o

If you are going to try the duct tape anyway, why not take my word for it and try the apple cider vinegar as well? Seriously, it does work.

  • Hi Dee. Not heard of the cider vinegar - will add it to my list of treatments. I am trying anything and everything. :D

This may sound reallt weird but it has worked on 3 people I know who have tried it -

Cut a piece of banana skin big enough to cover verucca. Place it white side against the verucca and stick it in place with a plaster. Leave for 24 hours. When you remove it, you will see the 'good' skin pulling away from the black core. You can then scrape out the verucca (gross I know). You might have to re-apply new banana skin after the first 24hours if the verucca has not opened up enough.

This probably wouldn't be a good idea for multiple veruccas, as I would think it would get a bit uncomfortable with lots of banana skin stuck to your feet:D

Surely the hard part is cutting a piece of banana skin small enough to cover the verruca?

Can confirm the duct tape method works. My son's feet which were COVERED in verruccas and build up of very hard painful skin, are now completely free of them. He had them for over 3 months and were just getting worse and more painful.
I used duct tape with tea tree oil mixed in with a bit of savlon, wrapped over with bandages and socks on (so the tape did not come off in his sleep) and within 10 days the things were GONE.

That is amazing. DS1's is really fed up with his now so I may try this. Did you keep them covered 24/7? Please give more details of the savlon/tea tree? What did he do about showering/bathing? How big were the verruccas?

    Thank you.
