Do u think this would also work on a callus? Ive had one on the ball of my foot for a few years. ive tried the callus remover plaster which didnt work just seemed to burn the skin around the callus. It really hard and painful at times and I usually end up cutting the excessive skin off.

I thought that this method worked for verrucas because the tape irritated the virus. That being the case, I don't think it would be very effective on a callus.

Personally, I'd recommend you try a fish pedicure - they are great for removing hard/dead skin!

  • I thought the idea was that the duct tape starved it of air.

Anyway We're struggling to get the duct tape to stay on our feet at the moment. Even the most powerful tape seems to come off and not last the day. Fingers crossed it is doing something.
I'm sure I went upstairs for some reason.

Could be sweaty feet, or are you putting the duct tape on after a bath? If the skin is moist, it will not stick. Even if you dry your feet after a bath, the skin will still be 'waterlogged' (especially if you like a good soak!)

Try putting some duct tape on before bed, and wearing a sock, this should keep it in place, and even if you can only do it overnight and it moves about during the day, its better than nothing!

IMHO by far the best thing for getting rid of verrucas/warts is apple cider vinegar. I had really unsightly warts on my hand (verrucas are warts which have been flattened due to the pressure of standing on your feet), and I tried over the counter stuff, duct tape etc, but nothing worked.

After reading about it on the net (there are even videos on YouTube showing you how to do it) I spent about 80 pence on a bottle of cider vinegar, and was amazed to find that it actually works!

I used to soak a tiny piece of cotton from the end of a cotton bud in the vinegar, place it on the wart, then cover it with a plaster. I would leave it overnight and repeat for two or three nights. The warts turn black, you just leave them, and they drop off after about two weeks. They can come back, as you are always susceptible until your body has fought off the virus, but you just treat again with the vinegar and they are gone.

You have to be careful not to get the vinegar on the skin surrounding the wart/verruca, and not to pick off the wart/verucca after it turns black (which is very tempting), but it's very simple, cheap and effective. My doctor told me I would just have to put up with the warts on my hands, which I was very self conscious about, and I can't understand why they don't recommend the vinegar, because it really works.
  • I had two veruccas for about 10 years, tried freezing them at the doctors, tried lots of visits to the podiatrist, note the acid treatment is bloody painfull and does so much damage. I have tried lots the over the counter stuff, spent a fortune trying to get rid of them.

Anyway, i finally managed to get rid of them, now been clear for 4 months, cant tell you how happy i am about that:j, so thought i would post how on this forum.

I was working with a friend about 6 months ago, and was discussing my wretched veruccas with him one day, and he said that he had had a couple, and had got rid of them by cutting them out with an old razor blade that he had broken out of his bic razor! :(

I was so fed up, i was about ready to try anything, but not quite as brave or as stupid as him. Anyway, i ordered a scalple and a set of surgical blades off ebay.

When the blades arrived, i plucked up the courage, cleaned the desk, got my foot up on the desk, with my magnifying glass lamp, and cut away as much of one of the verruca's as i dared too, just kept gently shaving the layers away, until i drew blood and then stopped. I used damp cotton wool to clean it, and then once it had stopped bleeding, i covered it with a layer of extra strength bazooka. I did this every Sunday for about 4-5 weeks, and just topped up the bazooka layer every Wednesday to keep it covered. I had used bazooka for years before, but not in this way.

After 2 weeks i noticed that the verucca got much smaller, and by the third week, it had almost gone, but i kept going for another week or so to be sure.

The strange thing, and it seems to support the theory that once you weaken the verucca enough, your body will fight it, as the other verucca that i had, and didnt opperate on also died about 2 weeks after.

Anyway, this worked for me, it wasn't as bad as it sounds, in fact it was easier and less painfull than freezing, or the acid treatment at the podiatrists, and I would do it again if i was unlucky enough to pick up another verucca.

    Good luck with yours
  • I felt obliged to post a review on verrucas as I have suffered for a few years with many on my feet and one on my thumb.
Alot of the internet suggestions like duct tape, bazuka, filing down etc. did reduce the size and severity of my verruca but weren't as effective as Wartner, which completely cured a verruca on my toe that was about the size of a 5 pence piece, raised off my toe and became very deep. Im in the process of killing another 2 off and there is improvement.
My results on the treatments i tried:
Duct tape - duct tape did reduce my verruca but it became irritating to my sensitive skin and the verruca itself during the treatment became almost sweaty and hard to manage. The point is to remove the root of the verruca (where the blood is supplied to) but duct tape didnt help. Also, i was impatient with leaving duct tape on for about 6 days and went through alot of duct tape each day trying to keep my toe covered as it kept falling off or i kept picking it off. I pressume my verruca was too stubborn for duct tape however it may work on a smaller one or wart.

Bazuka (salicylic acid)- no major effect on the verruca, the application is messy and didnt "freeze" the verruca as advertised. Dont waste your money on bazuka because it ended up in the bin a few days after when the nozzle became sticky with the acid and it was recommended not to use. Bazuka caused my verruca to bleed heavily when filing down and picking off the white layer of salicylic acid.

I've come to a conclusion that Wartner has been the most effective on my stubborn verruca. I purchased the pen version and the application is effortless - simply twisting the top to release the solution through a brush to apply with. It dries quickly (unlike Bazuka which took me at least 20 minutes if not more) and dries clear and there is definitely improvement by the next day. I bought Wartner around the end of August and it completely disappeared last night.
    Hope to have helped.
  • Hi guys,

I found this thread after having a consultation with my GP & totally disbelieving that duct tape could help cure a verucca!

I've been trying it for a few days, but I have a question. My verucca is tiny, how big is the tape that you are applying? I've gone for a roughly 1cm sq of tape secured by surgical tape on top to hold it in place. Just wondering if you needed more coverage for it to work?

Would be grateful for any tips or advice that you can offer me as I'm keen to see it go!

    Thank you :)
  • Hi Photogirl,

What you're doing sounds fine. We used the same, duct tape about 1cm and micropore tape to keep it on. Then when it gets loose after a couple of days we changed it for a fresh one.

  • I got rid of DD's veruccas by tweezing them off after conventional methods failed; once under the top layer there were three thin dark threads going deep into her foot, which I thouight of as the rootsI picked them out with tweezers making sure every trace was removed and they never returned

  • Hello all, I have been searching the web for what to do about my blimmin verruca and saw this forum. I know it's been a while since you all wrote on it but, can I ask, what results you have had?

My verruca is on the ball of my foot and is about the size of a 5p piece. He has been there for around 7 years and has invited two mates to party on other parts of my foot for the last couple of years too. He hurts to walk on sometimes.

I have tried all the usual methods and spent a lot of money on over-the-counter treatments as well as a chiropodist. Nothing has worked. I have cut at him until it bleeds, ignored him for months, filed him gently as well as taping him up to try and suffocate him. Nothing has worked.

I got so desparate that I even tried an old wives tale of rubbing it with bacon and then burying the bacon in the back garden! Sad or what!!

I haven't tried the tea tree oil or vinegar so will give it a go. But has it worked for everyone that posted on here before? I have also heard about laser treatment but, it seems, that would go into the hundreds.

It is nice to know it's not just me but it's little consolation. I am desperate for my first pedicure in 7 years - please help!!!!
