Fed Up Of Spammers

I was using 192.com to search for my friend's house number. I already knew the road. A message popped up saying, "Because you have made more than 10 searches in one minute your IP address has been blocked. Please call this (free) number to unblock it."
Why cannot Mr Free Petrol's IP address be blocked and others like him?
You can't create new usernames if you can't get on the site!0 -
that does work very well on some other forums, but there are at least a couple of reasons why it's not such a good idea for hereSeveral forums I go on won't allow you to post links until you have more than 10 posts. Why can't we have that?
probably been mentioned already
but worth saying again imho
1) there are no mods here, the board guides are volunteers who give a great deal of their free time & energy already, & policing newbies would be prohibitively time-consuming for most of them
2) a lot of people come to this site in sheer desperation looking for immediate help, & being kept waiting to post might put many of them off after they've finally plucked up the courage to communicate their situation to others0 -

Assuming he isnt using proxy then a email to his host with time/date could allow his ISP to track him down. Unless something is done this parasite will continue to post with impunity0
-
But web sites/forums can easily log IP address in the long run it would save time pursuing them as this parasite isn't going away unlike the many others we get0

Oh I see I take your point. I do try and email them saying its petrol spammer back etc. I dont report all his posts just one email stating that0

Personally I see little difference in what the mods have to do - now they have to remove the spam as soon as it is reported (which is as soon as it happens) - that way they just do it before it happens. Bearing in mind we are not talking about checking all messages posted here, just those who start new threads within their first 5 posts or some equivalent

This is a fair point, but there is very little spam by people posting in desperation discussion areas. The spam is in grabbit board etc. These could easily be limited - at least to get your thread monitored you need to have it OK'd by a pro. To be honest this doesn't need to be a mod, I'm sure that some of the rapid posters, would be far happier acting to confirm that there is indeed a bargain (what they actually want) than to be first off the mark to report spam.2) a lot of people come to this site in sheer desperation looking for immediate help, & being kept waiting to post might put many of them off after they've finally plucked up the courage to communicate their situation to others
Spam will be irradicated as soon as people realise it doesn't work. Ie people wont bother to submit 300 attempts of the same free petrol link to a mod who just deletes them immediately, they will however, continue to post on a grabbit board where they last 30 minutes before they get deleted despite the 10 second later SPAM SPAM SPAM SPAM song. There is no intelligent life out there ... ask any goldfish!0 -

I beg to differ and I think spam nobblers like Al Mac and Poppycat, would agree, they infect all the boards.0 -
You are right some of them seem to just work their way down the forum like a list. Especially the trainer and handbag sellers
