we police ourselves -its related to morals somehow - it works - why fix it!
kinda like an above post said -spam is reported fast & acted on
even if it wasnt if you can spot its spam just dont reply, go to another thread , its no real hassle in the big schemeI THINK is a whole sentence, not a replacement for I KnowSupermarket Rebel No 19:T0 -

Why dont' the ips of spammers get blocked - sounds dead simple to me (assuming they aren't and that recent petrol guy isn't changing ip everyday)?
Why not give new posters a forum that they can create posts in, but block them from new OPs elsewhere. That way, a good post on the new forum would rapidly find its way to quick grabbit - and duds will be ignored - thus people wouldn't even bother.
The fact that MSE has a way of dealing with spam IMHO isn't enough, if spam didn't work then they wouldn't do it. Sufficiently many people are following petrol links to make it worth the 20 mins to sign up each day with a different id. The only way to stop it is either stop people following the spam links (impossible) or make the spam so costly to the spammer that it isn't in their best interest.
Though I also agree with OP here, it wouldn't be hard to get all first threads to be checked by mods, they must be checking almost that many as it is, as they get reported as spam anyway - which takes much longer. There is no intelligent life out there ... ask any goldfish!0 -
I see that idiot free petrol guy is back surely something can be done about them0

The petrol spammer is indeed back
Cant the forum software be setup to quarantine (or auto-delete) any post with specific text in the title or content where the poster has less than so many post to their credit ?
If you look at the recent petrol spam , they all contain very similar text. Surely this would be easy to setup.
If like me you use the excellent Google Reader to automatically notifiy you of all new posts on MSE, you always get the spam posts, no matter how quickly they are deleted !!
PLEASE, please, please do something to block this !!!! :mad:0 -
The easy thing to do is report anything that you even suspect of being spam.
enough complaints will have the idiots who spam banned.Keep trying.........................what else is there to do?

Several forums I go on won't allow you to post links until you have more than 10 posts. Why can't we have that?Murphy's No More Pies Club #209

IMHO its not a good thing that people post THIS IS SPAM after spammy posts because that just bumps it up and makes people more likely to look.
How about only being able to post with a link in after you have been a member of the forum for a certain amount of time, or else links being moderated.
us board guides do try and clear away spammers as quickly as possible. Ther eis a LOT less spam on this site than many others out there on the web.Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:
