Spam by PM shouldn't.

I tend to leave my settings at the default, which is to receive private messages from everyone.

I do occasionally switch it over to "Receive Private Messages only from Buddies and Moderators", but only when there is some "hassle" afoot.;)

It's up to everyone's own preference how they set their options.

I would guess that the answer to 1 is that spam WON'T get through if you only let MSE Admin send you PMs.

And to 2/3, I think most people allow it, but I can't back that up with hard stats. Just that I've only ever found one person I couldn't send a PM to - not that I do it all the time you understand, wouldn't want anyone to think they needed to report me for spam PMs! :rotfl:

Thinking again, the default is that PMs are on, so I guess most people don't realise and keep it on, heck I didn't even know what PMs were to start with and it took me a while to work out what that funny message at the top of the forum was when I got my first one.

In fact it doesn't affect your posting ability only your ability to send pm's if your inbox is full.

it wouldnt really help as you can very easily surf anonymously without any trouble at all.

nope - in case a spammer doesnt know how to do it, I am not saying how.

Is there a list anywhere of what has been reported? perhaps that would stop the multiple e-mails to the abuse team
