• a) The Nottingham & Nottinghamshire Advocacy Alliance
b) www.nnaa.org.uk
c) Independent advocacy services for vulnerable people.
d) NNAA doesn’t receive the recognition, or publicity it deserves. It’s a small organisation with a few staff and volunteers, who are passionate about the work they do and totally committed to providing excellent services. It provides services that are truly independent, to the most vulnerable members of society. It supports individuals who have learning difficulties or mental health needs by giving them a “voice”, wherever they are, in the community or in care. This might be by communicating on their behalf, or by providing information to allow them to make real choices in their own lives.
As well as providing one to one advocacy support, it also trains service users, empowering them to run their own self-advocacy groups and projects and giving the participants a real voice in their community. The charity constantly struggles for funding, please support this nomination, or if you are local, consider volunteering.

A. Kirkwood Hospice

B. www.kirkwoodhospice.co.uk

C. Caring for the terminally ill and their families.

D. This charity provides superb support and care, not only to people suffering from long term illness, but also to their families. My 17 year old son died in December 2004 and although Kirkwood did not have any connection with him during his short illness, their Family Care Team have provided me and my younger son (now aged 13) with invaluable support. I can honestly say that I don't know how I would have survived without them. The work they do makes the unbearable tolerable.

1) Mental Health Foundation
2) www.mentalhealth.org.uk
3) A UK charity for everyone's mental health
4) Did you know that 1 in 4 of us will experience in any 1 year and 1 in 6 of us are affected by depression at some point in our lifetime. I myself suffer from depression and charities like this bring mental health issues to everyone and make it ok to tell people that you are ill without feeling ashamed of ourselves. Chances are someone you know will suffer with a mental health problem or depression and won't have even said a word. Please give this charity a chance to show that we may be ill but it is not our fault

b. http://www.ovacome.org.uk/Home

• a. http://www.secretworld.org

Secret World is the only 24/7 Wildlife rescue in the South West. Around 3000 animals go thro` the site every year from Harvest mice, badgers foxes fawns and hedgehogs to name a few. They do not get any funding from anyone and rely on fundraising, legacies and bequests. It cost £1,300 every day of the year to keep going. The rely very strongly on Volunteers with the bare minimum of paid staff. I am a volunteer and regularly go out with collecting boxes, taking with us Birds of prey that have been rescued but cannot be released due to previous human intervention. Please can you help to protect the Wildlife in this country for future generations. Thanking you.

a) JET (Joint Educational Trust)
b) http://www.jetcharity.org.
c) Educational help for children who have suffered seriously at home/school
d) After my stepson developed arthritis his mother kept him in his room. He had no social contact and didn't attend school on the grounds that he was 'too sick' and of course, mother knows best. Thanks to JET he was released from that prison and given the opportunity to go to a small private school and start again. He now has friends, a girlfriend and has just taken 8 GCSEs and is off to college in September - all of this was unthinkable three years ago. JET provides an escape from the hell of bullying and home torment and gives a new life to children who, like my stepson, were seriously contemplating suicide. JET administers funds on behalf of funders and, like many children's charities, does have some serious supporters but more children could be helped to a future if further funding were available.
• I'd like to nominate Mary's Meals
www.marysmeals.org
Mary's Meals feed and educate over 440,000 children

Mary's Meals are in seven different countries but mainly in Malawi where 400,000 children get a midday meal when they attend school. It costs £5.30 to feed a child for a year in Malawi. When Mary's Meals are introduced into a school enrolment goes up especially among girls and children start receiving scolarships for secondary education in areas where parents cannot afford the fees for secondary education. Primary education is free. In Malawi the children receive a maize porridge fortified with soya protein and vitamins and this is cooked by volunteers from the surrounding villages. Mary's Meals provide the maize porridge and the wood for the stoves and the porridge is sourced from within Malawi. When a school asks Mary's Meals to come they build a large kitchen which costs £6000 and this stores the supplies and the wood burning porridge pots.
