a. AUTISM SPEAKS
b. www.autismspeaks.org.uk
c. The only UK charity dedicated to autism research
d. Autism is a silent, yet relatively common, disability touching the lives of over half a million people in the UK alone. It is a complex brain disorder significantly impairing a person’s ability to communicate (some have no speech), respond to their surroundings and form relationships. Around 1 in 100 UK children, currently qualify for a diagnosis of an autism spectrum disorder and yet autism research is one of the most underfunded of medical conditions. Only £3.70 is spent on autism research per person with the condition – compare this with other conditions. Recent estimates put the annual cost of autism to the UK at just under £28 billion. Autism Speaks raises funds for high quality biomedical research into the condition. Funding Autism Speaks will help accelerate research in order to develop better treatments and interventions for people with autism.0 -

a. Birmingham Christmas Shelter (formerly Birmingham Open Christmas), charity number 1002891
b. www.openchristmas.org
c. Providing warmth, food and company to the homeless
d. A wonderful independent charity, which has been operating for over 30 years, with such a beautiful ethos:
The charity's aim is to provide food, warmth, shelter and friendship to the homeless and lonely of Birmingham during the Christmas period, regardless of colour, race, religion, gender or sexual orientation.
The charity provides an essential service during a time when many other facilities are closed. Their doors are open to guests 24 hours a day during Christmas week and, typically, they welcome between 50 and 150 guests on a daily basis, providing breakfast, lunch, dinner, a continuous tea, coffee and sandwich service, haircuts, chiropody, dental treatment, entertainment and a safe and warm place to sleep.
The charity depends entirely on donations and its very generous volunteers who give freely of their time.0 -
a. Edale Mountain Rescue Team
b. www.edalemountainrescue.co.uk
c. Volunteers saving lives in wild and remote places
d. Mountain rescue is a true 24/7 emergency service. Edale MRT responds to over 100 jobs per year, often in weather conditions that other services cannot respond in. They are called into urban areas such as Sheffield for the floods last year and to search for missing persons by the police. Team members are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. They spend as much time maintaining the equipment and raising money as they do rescuing people. A comment often received while fundraising is 'I don't need Mountain Rescue, I don't go into the hills'. Over the last few years, Edale MRT has rescued a boy sledging in a Sheffield park, a girl who had fallen down a grass bank at a reservoir in Chesterfield and a girl who had fallen from a tree swing in Rotherham. Mountain Rescue, coming to an area near you soon.0 -

A Charity that provides support to people with a Learning Disability
d. One paragaph only (max 150 words) of why this charity should be supported; whether that's for your personal reasons or more generally.
The Wilf Ward Family Trust was founded in November 1986 to give relief to carers through the provision of residential respite units and day facilities.
Over the last few years the Trust has undergone tremendous expansion and the demand for our top quality services remains high. We are continuing to grow and offer our Services Users and their families the very best in care.
Our work began with a respite unit called Isabella Court in Pickering and then Phylward House in Harrogate. Since then we have created day services and long-term care in a variety of settings in North Yorkshire, the City of York, Leeds and East Yorkshire. We have 65 Supported Living schemes0 -
a) Nomad Homeless Advice and Support Unit
b) www.nomadsheffield.co.uk
c) Helps Homeless and Vulnerably Housed people
d) Nomad helps over 3000 people each year.
NOMAD aims to achieve long-term change by breaking the cycle of homelessness and frequent moving. Their service helps people to resettle and live independently.
NOMAD helps people to rebuild their lives through developing their social and life skills; to rebuild relationships with family and friends; and to reintegrate into the community and access training and employment.
NOMAD is looking for funding to develop their Housing Advice Centre. Next year sees the 20th anniversary of the project and thousands of people have benefited from the service over that time.
Everyone at NOMAD wholeheartedly wants to see the service modernised and brought into the 21st century. There are lots of ideas, but funds are needed to bring them to fruition.
The demand for this service is high and unfortunately with the current economic climate it is likely that the demand for the service will increase. :T0 -

a) Deafblind UK
b) https://www.deafblind.org.uk
c) Empowering deafblind people to live a decent life.
d) Every day Deafblind UK works to help people with a dual sensory loss to lead lives which are as good as possible. We communicate with them in their "language" (i.e. British Sign Language, Deafblind Manual, Block Alphabet, Braille, Moon etc) and provide a befriending scheme, as well as publications in various formats to suit the users needs. We also train staff and volunteers, and offer respite breaks in our specially adapted flats at Rainbow Court in Peterborough, and our caravan in Hopton on Sea. Just to provide our members magazine in all formats costs nearly £25 for one issue. This is worthy cause, and if you won't vote for us, at least make sure you take care of your own sight and hearing and that of those dear to you. You don't realise how precious and fragile it is until you experience the lives of people without it.0 -
A. Friends Supporting Friends
B. www.friendssupportingfriends.org.uk
C. Helps people raise money for life-saving treatment abroad
D. This charity aims to enable friends to support a friend, or family member, who is facing a life threatening illness and high treatment costs. Often, due to restrictions in this country, people are having to look abroad for treatment to try and prolong their lives. The cost of this can be enormous and is a further burden at an already difficult time. I believe that lack of money should never be a reason for loss of life.0
