Our aim is to provide guide dogs and other mobility services that increase the independence and dignity of blind and partially-sighted people. • St Giles Trust - a charity working with ex-offenders and disadvantaged people.

I would like to nominate this charity as they do some gritty work which has a huge impact. They provide resettlement support through services focussing on housing, training, education and support into employment. The foundation of their work is training ex-clients to become qualified workers helping other ex-offenders or individuals suffering disadvantage or hardship e.g. homelessness, mental health problems.

Why should you support St Giles? They do important work which is often overlooked in favour of more cuddly charitable causes. Their work directly reduces re-offending and makes communities safer. Their head office is based in London but they work across the country, including carrying out work in over 20 prisons.

Further details can be found on www.stgilestrust.org.uk

    THANK YOU
  • :T Thank you- St Giles Trust
  • I nominate the National Alliance of Childhood Cancer Parent Organisations (NACCPO)

    www.naccpo.org.uk

A National Children's Cancer Charity helping UK families

NACCPO is a small but important charity which helps families whose children have cancer. It has expanded greatly in the past few years and more funds would enable it to extend services and reach more families. NACCPO is run by a volunteer board of trustees and one paid staff member - all of which have had a child who has undergone cancer treatment so they are very much aware of the issues faced by families when their child is diagnosed with cancer.
The Alliance is made up of 35 member groups who provide emotional support, holidays, trips and many other forms of help to their members.
NACCPO also acts as a united 'voice' for families, advocating for better NHS and charity services. We also help individual families who may need advice on benefits, grants or insurance as most parents face many financial worries when caring for a seriously ill child.
  • The Hornsey Trust for Children with Cerebral Palsy

    www.hornseytrust.org.uk

A specialist centre for children with cerebral palsy

We run the only specialist centre and school for children with cerebral palsy in the London region. We offer intensive therapy and education for children aged from birth to 11 years old. Our work is vital because we constantly guide, encourage and motivate children. This teaches each child to do as much as possible for themselves and by themselves without using aids and equipment and literally transforms their lives! Currently we provide one-to-one support for babies and children under two, Parent and Child groups, a nursery group and school groups for five to 11 year olds. We also run summer and Easter holiday schemes. Many children who come here also have significant learning disabilities, limited communication skills and additional disabilities like epilepsy, hearing and visual impairment. Each year we need to find £250k just to keep going. That is why donations are so important to us.

  • a) Tourettes Action
    b) www.tourettes-action.org.uk
    c) for people with Tourette Syndrome and their families
    d) Tourette Syndrome affects one child in a hundred, and around 300,000 children and adults in the UK. Some have mild symptoms. For others, TS is intensely disabling: educationally, economically and socially. People with TS find themselves excluded from education, work, social activities, and family and sexual relationships. Both children and adults may also exclude themselves out of shame for their involuntary actions. Tourettes Action works to provide children and adults with TS with the practical support and social acceptance they need to help them live their lives to the full. This includes information to help get a diagnosis, practical help, parties for the children who are never invited and teenagers’ camps, as well as educating health and social care workers and the public about the true nature of TS.
Did you know that involuntary bad language affects only one person in ten with TS?
