We would like to thank all of you who notify us of any freebies we use these for raffles, prizes etc and often make use of the money saving tips for the benefit of the charity. a. Lothian Autistic Society
b. www.lothianautistic.org
c. Provides Services for Children on the Autistic Spectrum
d. The great thing about Lothian Autistic Society is that their services benefit the whole family;
The top service has to be the fantastic holiday playschemes for school age children with an Autistic Spectrum Condition. The children love the activities, the outings and the chance to express themselves in their own unique ways. Meanwhile the parents have the opportunity to pursue education, employment or spend time with their other children.
This small charity, which covers Edinburgh and the Lothians, also delivers respite services, a siblings club and social clubs.
Equally important are the opportunites for parent support provided by regular meetings, social activities, a resource centre and newsletters. The newsletters pass on useful information about the Society, encourage members to join in fundraising and provide links to external services and activities, as well as money saving offers such as the CEA cinema card and even the MoneySavingExpert website!0 -

Mentoring Plus working with young people at risk
d. One paragaph only (max 150 words) of why this charity should be supported; whether that's for your personal reasons or more generally.
Mentoring Plus works with young people at risk. They run positive and achievable activities; daytime during school breaks for new referrals, and evening groups for those already established on the project, accompanied by a mentoring service. The mentor is there as an adult friend, a voice of reason, encouragement and support, someone who’ll listen non-judgementally and treat everything discussed with confidentiality. For many their mentor is their first positive adult role model who they feel they can trust. Many kids have ceased to regard aspects of their behaviour as problematic and instead simply regard themselves a failures. ‘I’m like this because that’s what everyone tells me I am’. A life continued in this vein is a waste of a life, and even from a cold financial viewpoint it’s a huge drain on society. They are all capable of leading constructive and fulfilling lives, they just don’t know it yet.0 -

SUPPORTING INDEPENDENCE OF BLIND AND PARTIALLY SIGHTED PEOPLE
This local charity set up in 1985 in Hastings, which has operated in the whole of East Sussex since 2000, is set to close in September 2008 due to a funding crisis. Homecall offers help with a myriad of tasks that Blind and Partially Sighted people find difficult to cope with including reading through the maze of paperwork and service information that falls on their doormat, getting out and about in the community and to offer valuable ongoing support enabling them to continue living independently. In Bexhill a campaign is being run to save this highly valued service supporting a client group recognised as being vulnerable. Your support will help our team of dedicated volunteers, who are specifically trained to understand sight loss, continue their good work. The excellence of our volunteers was marked in 2006 when Homecall was proudly awarded the ' Queens Award for Voluntary Service'.0 -

a) Highland Hospice
b) www.highlandhospice.org
c) Local Hospice treasured by people in the Highlands
d) Highland Hospice is place of inspiration and sanctuary; healing sometimes, relieving often and always comforting. It is the only Hospice in the Highlands of Scotland and has an immense area to cover. There is a 10 bedded in patient unit and Day Hospice on site but the medical team travel hundreds of miles to take the care of the Hospice to people in remote communities. It is about respect for life, maintaining personal dignity and compassion and individuality. The Hospice provides specialist palliative care for people with many illnesses, including cancer, heart & lung disease and Multiple Sclerosis to name just a few. Nothing is too much trouble for their patients. Whether the staff and volunteers can organise a candle lit dinner for a patient’s anniversary or bring an elephant to the Hospice to visit a patient then they will do it. This is truly a very special place.0 -

I would like to nominate the following:
a. The Official Name of the Charity.
The Worshipful Company of Information Technologists Charitable Operations (Reg. Charity No. 1113492)
b. A link to the Website of the Charity.
http://www.it4communities.org.uk
c. A description of no more than 8 words of the charity - this is crucial, its what will be used to describe the charity in the vote.
The UK's leading national IT volunteering programme
d. One paragaph only (max 150 words) of why this charity should be supported; whether that's for your personal reasons or more generally.
iT4Communities is a true MoneySaving Expert organisation! They help charities, community groups and social enterprises access free IT support from IT professional volunteers and make substantial savings. They are funded by the charitable arm of the Information Technologists' Company and by corporate sponsorship. Government seed funding has been withdrawn this year and this has placed several projects in jeopardy unless replacement funds are found. They are a small team supporting a large network of IT professional volunteers throughout the UK and, occasionally, overseas. Since inception in 2002 volunteers have delivered over £2.5 million worth of support to charities and voluntary sector organisations in the UK.0 -
a. Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA)
b. scottishspca.org
c. prevent cruelty to animals rehome unwanted animals
d. SSPCA like the RSPCA (I don't know why they don't amalgamate and pool resources) fight to stop animal cruelty and neglect and work with police to prosecute. Only problem is they don't have much space to keep animals while trying to rehome them - and they work hard to do so - so many healthy animals are euthanised, especially during summer holidays and Christmas. They need more rehoming centres and food to feed the animals while awaiting rehoming.0 -
a. National Deaf Childrens Society (NDCS)
b. www.ndcs.org.uk
c. Support and advice for deaf children
d. The NDCS provide support and advice for families with deaf children. They run summer schools and regional weekend courses geared around educating parents on the best methods of dealing with deaf children and also introducing deaf role models - adults who have lived with deafness all their lives- which makes a tremendous difference to the outlook of parents with deaf children and gives a lot of hope that the child can have a 'normal' life during adulthood.0
