a. Operation Imprezza

c. It enables disadvantaged students to recieve an education.
d. This is a small, local run charity, which has provided a lifeline to students, mainly orphans from Kibera Sulm, by enabling them to obtain a successful primary and secondary education, and also the chance to go on to university. They were based in Nairobi, but due to the recent troubles during last years elections, had to leave at short notice and have now based in Western Province. The old school and all its contents in Nairobi have been lost in the rioting, and the charity is having to help build everything from scratch. Not only have the remaining staff taken on around 40 orphans from the original school, but now have under their care many primary aged children from a local orphanage, who have either been abandoned or parents have died through HIV. The area is extreamly poor, which means that the chances for the children to gain an education and so break out of the poverty trap are almost impossible. Currently the classrooms are a bugalow and mud hut, with no equipment. A new school and accommodation are urgently needed and this can only be achieved by fund raising. We desperately need your help.0 -

a. VETAID
b. http://www.vetaid.org/home.asp
c. Sustainable futures for East Africa’s poorest rural communities.
d. In rural East Africa, where 50p is an average daily income, VETAID’s sustainable solutions alleviate poverty, hunger and disease. It trains, educates, and implements self-sustaining programmes that endure. Dryland farming techniques allow land that provided only livestock fodder to also produce food for people. HIV/AIDS widows and orphans face greater life expectancy, brighter futures, and income through training in small animal and kitchen garden husbandry. Animal health-workers, recruited from local communities, are trained to minimise the impact of disease on livestock that is critical for protein and income.
These and similar projects initiate the ascent from poverty and improve income, while many benefit from creating community banks, controlled by and for the people. Weekly 50p deposits are matched initially by VETAID, who provide basic business training, before small low-interest loans are granted. So far, all borrowers have repaid, profited and reinvested. For them, becoming “MSEs” really is for life.0 -
a. Simon Says.
b. http://www.simonsays.org.uk/index.html
c. Supporting children who have been bereaved or have a relative who is dying.
d. Last year my husband died unexpectedly, leaving me to support my 11 year old son. Simon Says offers advice and support for both parents and children. Above all children meet others who are in their position, who are after all, the only ones who know what it is like to lose a parent or sibling so young. Instead of feeling only sadness, the meetings encouraged children to remember happy or positive memories. When this happens you don't know what to do to make the pain go away for your child. Simon Says helps start that process. Please support them.

a) Name of the Charity: The Griffins Society
b) Griffins Society Website: www.thegriffinssociety.org
c)Eight word description of our work: Supporting female (ex)offenders to become productive, lawful citizens.
d) Charity statement
Our project (Transitions: Volunteering Into Work) places female (ex)offenders in voluntary work in order to help them become more work-ready, come off benefits, and avoid re-offending.
Central to this project is the four-week skills-development programme prior to their placement, containing modules to help women make positive changes in their lives eg: CV writing, interview skills and presentation, career planning, etc. A core module is ‘Finance, Debt, and Budgeting’. Many women in prison have never worked and have few money-management skills - we strongly believe that helping women into work and teaching them how to take control of their finances will help prevent future offending. The government recognises ‘finance and debt’ as one of the key Pathways (contributing factors) to preventing reoffending.
Any contribution towards this project would be gratefully received: either a grant and/or help with the money-management module.0 -
a. Groundwork Derby & Derbyshire
b. www.gdd.org.uk
c. Passionate about positive social and environmental change
d. GDD aims to create an environment that is rich in biodiversity and accessible to all, that supports healthy and vibrant communities.
If selected as an MSE charity we would use the funding to support our “Grow Great Grub” project which works with communities to help people learn the skills to grow and cook their own food at home. Participants take on the challenge to renovate a community food growing area and, over a ten week course, learn about seed sowing, propagation techniques, container growing and bringing rough ground into production.
The project culminates in a ‘cook off’ where participants learn recipes to cook the produce grown. Benefits include healthier eating, increased physical activity through gardening and families learning together. This approach also complements the ethos of MSE, empowering consumers to save money through growing and cooking home-grown food.0 -

a) CLIC Sargent Cancer Care for Children
b) www.clicsargent.org.uk
c) Caring for children and young people with cancer
d) Every day, 10 children and young people are diagnosed with cancer or leukaemia. The devastation that such news brings to the whole family is immeasurable. CLIC Sargent provides a wide variety of services tailored to meeting the needs of children and young people with cancer and their families; we are there for them every step of the way. When your child is diagnosed with cancer, money may not seem like your biggest concern. But cancer has a financial impact too – often one parent has to give up work to become a full time carer and there are increased accommodation and travel costs. Special dietary requirements, car repairs, phone bills and specialist equipment, such as a bath lift, all add up. CLIC Sargent’s services include helping families with their finances, through financial assistance grants and advice.
