  • I would like to nominate the Sussex Autistic Society their website is www.sussexautisticsociety.org.

They promote awareness and provide support to families in Sussex who care for a autistic child or young person.

This charity has helped my family over the past two years as my son was diagnosed with an ASD. They offer a range of services to help support families look after their children or young people. They offer bahaviour management, parent support groups, youth service and a family centre. They also provide a fantastic outreach service.

autism is still an unknown disability but this effects so many families now and to help keep families together and support these children it is vital that there are experts out there to guide you. Our children need the support in order for them to lead a happy life.
  • Completely voluntary-funded charity offering a wide range of help for suffers of cancer of any age and their families throughout Lancashire.

When my husband was diagnosed with cancer at 42, having just got married and me being 3 months pregnant with our daughter, Vine House were on hand offering holistic therapies, links to other organisations, councilling and above all, a willing ear and a positive attitude - nothing was too much trouble. They went the extra mile, even though the do not receive any government funding at all. Although my husband sadly died two years later leaving me 7 months pregnant with the son he never got to meet, Vine House were constantly there throughout the illness and beyond - I couldn't have coped without them. It's such a shame that this charity is often overlooked even though they help so many. Unfortunately, there are many, many stories like mine and worse.
Please consider nominating this charity as so many of us have been or will be touched by this cruel disease. At such a frightening time, we need all the help we can get.
    Thankyou
  • a) SSAFA Forces Help
    b) www.ssafa.org.uk
    c) Helping serving & ex-Service personnel and their families, in need.
    d) The Sailors, Soldiers, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA) Forces Help provides a safety net for all serving personnel and their families, and ex-Service personnel and their dependants, whether they left the Forces last week or many years ago. The charity provides practical and emotional support for those who are lonely, bereaved, in debt or ill. It also helps those entitled to apply for state and local benefits and for war pensions, and will seek to provide financial assistance to those in need.

Life in the Forces is unique; it has always offered all sorts of opportunities but, whether retired or still serving, it also brings with it unique problems and anxieties. Please help SSAFA Forces Help to continue supporting both the serving and ex-Service communities, widows and widowers, many of whom have already given so much themselves.
  • I would like to nominate 'The Jessica Jewel Trust'

    www.thejessicajeweltrust.org.uk

The Jessica Jewel Trust is a new charity which has been set up in memory of an inspirational Teesside youngster called Jessica Harrison. Jessica sadly passed away on November 26 2007 aged just 7. She was at home in New Marske, Teesside, in her Daddy's arms, with her Mammy cuddling her and with her favourite Disney CD playing on her stereo. She had fought cancer for two years and had smiled throughout. She showed dignity and courage far beyond her years. Jessica lived only 7 years, but gave and received more love and joy in this time than many experience in decades. People seemed to fall in love with Jessica. She was incredibly bright, creative, loving, funny and kind, but none of these adjectives can adequately describe her infectious personality or the effect she had on people. The nurses who cared for Jessica on Ward 16 of the RVI nicknamed her "Smiler".

The Jessica Jewel Trust has been set up in Jessica’s memory by her parents to help the patients and families of Ward 16 of the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, which is a cancer ward for children.

While Jessica was undergoing chemotherapy treatment in 2007, Jessica, her parents Karen and Andy and younger brother Jack had a short break at Haggerston Castle Holiday Park in Northumberland. They had visited the Haggerston Castle several times before as it was one of Jessica’s favourite places. They were wanting to take Jessica on holiday, but at that particular stage in her treatment, she needed to be close to the hospital. Fortunately, Haggerston Castle is only an hour away from the hospital by car and is even within the area covered by the Macmillan Nurses attached to Ward 16, so it was ideal.

After Jessica passed away,Jessica's brave parents wanted to do something to help the children and families who will pass through Ward 16 in the future and go through what Jessica and we as a family went through. This would be very much in the spirit of Jessica, who would often think of others before herself.

As a family they found their break at Haggerston Castle very beneficial, it allowed the family (and more importantly, Jessica) to escape and temporarily forget their troubles. They feel certain that in making life as much fun as possible for Jessica allowed her to fight for as long as she did. Our aim then is to raise enough money to buy and maintain a holiday home at Haggerston Castle, which will be available for the children and their family to use, completely free of charge.

Please visit the website link at the top of this page and please consider the Jessica Jewel trust as a worthy beneficiary of your generous charity.

    Thank you for reading

  • a. The Official Name of the Charity.

    Cystic Fibrosis Trust

    b. A link to the Website of the Charity.

    www.cftrust.org.uk

    c. A desciption of no more than 8 words of the charity - this is crucial, its what will be used to describe the charity in the vote.

The UK's only national charity dedicated to all aspects of Cystic Fibrosis

    d. One paragaph only (max 150 words) of why this charity should be supported; whether that's for your personal reasons or more generally.

CF is the UK's most common life threatening inherited disease. I have CF and it controls my life, constant tiredness, breathlessness, chest infections, digestive problems, liver problems, diabetes, bone problems and weight problems, CF sufferers have alot to deal with. Treatments include, daily physio, nebulisers, 30+ tablets a day, oxygen, overnight feeds, IV antibiotic treatment and lots of needles! It’s not come along and we had a healthy life beforehand and may recover from it . We were born with CF, it’s always there and always has been, we don't know what it feels like to be healthy. There’s no cure and the average life expectancy is 31 years old, that’s a hard thing to come to terms with. People with CF are not even entitled to free prescriptions, there are many ways the CF trust can help suffers with the donations they receive for instance research into better treatments.

    Can I nominate

YoungMinds - The Children and Young People's Mental Health Charity?

    https://www.youngminds.org.uk

Mental health is never a fashionable topic, but with almost one in ten young people suffering from a mental health condition, it isn't an issue we can ignore, either.

    • Nearly 1 in 10 young people in Britain aged between 5
and 16 are suffering from behavioural, emotional or hyperactivity
    disorders.

    • 1 in 5 are experiencing less severe mental health problems that
    significantly affect their daily lives.

    • Nearly 80,000 suffer from serious depression.

    • 1 in 12 deliberately self-harm.

    • Over half of adults with mental illnesses were diagnosed in
childhood, but less than half were treated appropriately at the time.

YoungMinds supports young people, parents and carers, and the professionals who work with them to overcome a range of conditions from ADHD to Eating Disorders and Bi-polar. At such a small charity, your money will be more than just another drop in the ocean.

For many rescues, Cat Chat is their main source of good homes.Cat Chat was the first solely internet-based Charity to be Registered in the UK.The Objects in the Cat Chat Constitution are:"To promote the efficiency and effectiveness of charities whose purposes are to promote animal welfare, by the provision of an internet website, IT support and facilities" "To advance the education of the public in matters of animal welfare by the provision of a website and information service"
  • This is a charity that provides highly trained dogs for disabled people. See www.caninepartners.co.uk Disabled people often need assistance that these dogs are able to give them. They are often lonely as well so the dog can be a tremendous companion and can give them a quality of life that able bodied people take for granted.
This charity has trouble competing for funds against the bigger, well known charities, so a donation would be extremely well received.
I am hoping to get one of their dogs in the summer and I just cannot wait.
