Red Balloon Learner Centres (James Bulger House)
URL: http://www.redballoonlearner.co.uk/
Fundraising page: www.justgiving.co.uk/jamesbulger
Registered Charity No. 1109606
Description: Refuge for Bullied Children memorial to James Bulger
Nomination: Two-year-old James Bulger was abducted, tortured and battered to death in 1993 by two 10 year old boys in a case that shocked the world and still frequently brings many people, including me, to tears. There has never been a memorial to this little boy, and none is more fitting than the appeal to raise money for a Learner Centre in his name. There are only three such centres in Britain and all are in the south. James would have had his 18th birthday on 16th March 2008 when this appeal was launched. It is a sad fact that many bullied children are driven to suicide because they feel there is no way out. Please support Esther Rantzen and Denise Fergus (nee Bulger) to get this refuge and Learner Centre started so that severely bullied children get the support they so desperately need for their recovery.
Thank you for reading this and I do hope you feel able to support us.

I wish to nominate Derian House Childrens Hospice
Chorley, Lancashire.:T
www.derianhouse.co.uk
charity number1005165
I am making a general nomination as they do such fantastic work supporting children and families who have children who are terminally ill. They have a fantastic hospice which also offers restbite care, counselling and much more for children and their families.
They get just under 2% of their funding from officially sources, the rest is from donations and fundraising.
They are open 365 days of the year and offical funding pays for just 4 days of them. WHO WILL PAY FOR THE REST.0 -

a. The Jessie May Trust (registered charity no 1086048)
b. www.jessiemaytrust.org.uk
c. Nursing care at home for children with a terminal illness
d. The Jessie May Trust provides a vital hospice-at-home service for children whose life is limited, to help families make the most of the precious time they have together. Most of us can't begin to imagine coping with the news that our child is not going to live into adulthood, let alone caring for them 24hrs a day 7 days a week. The service is provided free of charge to families by specialist nurses but there is more demand than this small charity can meet.
This charity should be supported because it doesn't have a high profile but does amazing work and it relies on voluntary funding.0 -

Samaritans
www.samaritans.org
Non-judgemental emotional support for everyone
Samaritans offer emotional support that anyone can access 24 hours a day whether face to face, telephone, letter or email. All support is confidential and non-judgemental. National charity is run almost entirely by volunteers, only some paid members of staff work in the central office, but all local branches are run by volunteers. Could be very valuable support for someone experiencing financial difficulties.0 -
Thank you Glowboy for bringing Demelza to the attention of people. I have supported them for some time now and as I live very close to where the new hospice is being built I also now volunteer. As a grandmother I feel extremely lucky to have healthy grandchildren and want to do as much as I can to bring as much comfort to these children and their families0

www.caft.co.uk
Holidays for disabled, terminally ill and disadvantaged children.
CAFT offers free holidays and activities for disabled, terminally ill and disadvantaged children from throughout the North West of England. During their stay the children participate in a tailor-made programme of activities to suit their needs, led by a team of Activity Play Workers. A holiday at The Adventure Farm gives children the opportunity to try exciting new activities, make new friends, increase self-esteem and confidence by discovering new talents and abilities and build memories they can treasure for a lifetime. While staying at CAFT, all children, regardless of ability, are encouraged to challenge themselves and learn new skills. By involving them in activities they may have never before attempted, we will be showing them just how capable, talented and worthwhile they are, and how they have as much right to success and happiness as any of their peers. As a result, the children return to their homes, schools and communities with a positive attitude and a new sense of determination.
