:j I would like to nominate The Imps
    http://impsonline.com/content/view/12/26/
The Imps is a non-profit-making organisation that educates young people through a disciplined, dynamic and challenging programme of activities.

More than 1,400 young people have passed through the imps.
    • The Imps perform all around the world – from Singapore to The USA.
    • The 38 young riders who are The Imps make them Britain’s largest motorcycle display team.
    • The Imps are aged between five and sixteen years of age. At sixteen they retire from the team.
    • The Imps train rigorously throughout the year including off-road confidence building work with members of The Royal Signals Display Team – The White Helmets.
    • The Imps ride a variety of four and two stroke motorcycles with engine sizes ranging from 50 to 250cc.
    • The distinctive red display tunics of The Imps represent one of eight different outfits each member requires for training, performing and touring.
    • When The Imps perform at The Edinburgh Military Tattoo they are watched by a live audience of 217,000 and on television by more than 100 million!
    • The Imps are open to all and are intent upon the development of citizenship within all members.
The Imps have recently lost a large amount of funding and the expenses for the vehicles has increased due to the training ground in East London falling in the high emission zone. Even as a charity they are not exempt from the charge.
The Imps Motorcycle Display Team, noted for its impeccable smart red tunics and highly disciplined spectacular show originated in the 1970’s from The Hackney Adventure Holiday Project – a charity founded by Roy Pratt MBE that provided holidays in the country for under privileged young people. Some of the children found a dysfunctional old ‘motorbike’ – one thing led to another and a motorcycle display team, uniquely comprising young people aged six to sixteen, emerged.

They would appreciate any financial support as the benefits to these children is immense.
Treat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.
  • a) Free Kicks Foundation

    b) www.myspace.com/freekicksfoundation

    c) Giving sick and deserving children football days out

    d) The aim of the Free Kicks Foundation is to provide football-related activities for ill, bereaved and disadvantaged children, to give them a day to remember with their favourite football club. The days out, which we call 'kicks', could involve meeting a favourite player, watching their favourite team train, tours of their chosen stadium, receiving a special gift or anything football related we can organise to make it a day they will never forget.

So far we have treated children to be mascot for Manchester United, Peterborough United and MK Dons, with 2 other children being given the chance to watch Chelsea and meet players after the game.
  • A) Wired International Ltd

    B)www.wiredin.org.uk (currently in development)
    Original website: www.wiredinitiative.com

    C) Empowering people to find recovery from addiction

    D)
Wired In works with people affected by substance use problems to create an environment that helps them find their personal path to recovery. The current treatment system focuses on the problem (sadly, rather unsuccessfully), whereas the Wired In approach focuses on the solution - providing opportunity, choice and hope.

We work with people who are recovering or have recovered from addiction, enabling them to use their experiences to educate and help others. We are developing support communities (both online and real-world) where the recovery message can be shared, and people can help one another to develop fulfilled, meaningful lives. Our new Recovery Movement is supported by leading recovery experts.

The Wired In community work receives no formal funding. I have personally received a great deal of help and support from Wired In, and want to see this charity succeed in the great work they do for people affected by addiction.

    a) Home-Start UK

    b) www.home-start.org.uk

    c) Family support at home through trained parent volunteers

    d) We all know that parenting isn’t easy! But when you’re struggling to cope with poverty, isolation, mental or physical illness, life itself, let alone parenting can often seem like a towering mountain to climb. That’s where Home-Start comes in. All over the UK, Home-Start recruits, trains and supervises local parent volunteers to visit families with children under five, at home, offering support and friendship.
Parents helping parents; it’s a simple idea that really works.

Home-Start volunteers are a lifeline to families during difficult times. We work with partner agencies like Turn2us to access specialist advice including finance, benefits and housing, whilst also providing hands on help in household budgeting and routines, and emotional support.

Then when families feel confident and ready to go it alone, parents often go on to volunteer for Home-Start themselves. Who better to support struggling families than people who have gone through exactly the same situations?
  • Many thanks for recognizing the FreeCycle concept and specifically, Freecycle, UK!

    a. Freecycle UK

    b. www.uk.freecycle.org

    c. Local community groups saving money and the environment

    d. The charity has been formed to offer structured support for Freecycle groups all round the UK. Brilliant work is being done by volunteers up and down the country running internet based groups for their communities to facilitate reuse and recycling to cut the amount of stuff going to landfill. The aim of the charity is to provide services and support, including a more user-friendly website, to ensure:
    • provision of more groups
    • continuity of services
    • effective assistance network for group moderators and members.
Freecycle provides a great service to a membership of over a million in the UK - saving money, building local communities, cutting down on landfill. Support from MSE in recommending the service has been much appreciated. It would be wonderful if volunteers and members could also benefit from a funded central infrastructure. Thanks for reading!
  • It's great that we've got the chance to suggest charities here for support! :T

    I'd like to nominate:

    a) Care for the Family
    b) www.careforthefamily.org.uk
    c) Supporting families through good times and bad times.

Our families are probably the most important thing in our lives, and matter to us more than anything else. So I love that this charity doesn't take that for granted! and it would be great if we could give them our support.

Care for the Family helps people build strong relationships, and helps in the tough times too. Some of the things they do:
    - Befrienders for bereaved parents - whether they have lost a child through suicide, murder, accidents or illness.
    - Helping parents learn how to keep their kids away from drugs.
    - Providing subsidised breaks for single parents and their children.
    - Teaching good money management skills and helping people cope with debt.
    - Support for parents of children with additional needs.

Care for the Family works all across the UK. It helps many tens of thousands of people every year - but I know there is still a lot more to do, so please give them your support! Thanks. :j

  • a. Unique - Rare Chromosome Disorder Support Group

    b. www.rarechromo.org

    c. alleviating the isolation of those with chromosome disorders

    d. Unique is a small charity providing information, practical help & advice to families & individuals (often children) affected by chromosome disorders. Many have severe, lifelong disabilities and need round-the-clock care. in these days of advanced medical diagnosis, many doctors know very little about chromosome disorders and their effects. Those diagnosed with such disorders are often left isolated, with little information and few sources of support. Unique provides specialist information in an accessible, family-friendly way which helps those affected to understand and come to terms with their condition. When my daughter was diagnosed, their caring, friendly and patient approach helped me to learn about and begin to come to terms with her condition. I don’t know what I would have done without them as they are the only group of their kind I have found in the UK.
  • Rainer Lincolnshire (www.raineronline.org) focusses on supporting homeless young people who've had a bad start in life, offering housing and one to one support, helping them to find jobs or training and education; developing life skills like money management, cooking, healthy living, to get them living an independent and productive life as young adults. Many come with complex problems, but Rainer's success rate is second to none nationally. Of course places are limited by funding - please help.
  • I would like to nominate ...

    a) PACT ANIMAL SANCTUARY, Norfolk - People for Animal Care Trust Reg No. 1045251

    b) http://www.pactsanctuary.org

    c) PACT rescues, rehabilitates, re-homes, neglected, injured and abandoned animals.

    d) PACT is a charity that begins where other local organisations have neither the facilities nor expertise to cope. PACT rescues, rehabilitates, and where possible re-homes, neglected, injured and abandoned animals. Our speciality is 'problem' animals - victims of physical or mental abuse - we coax them back to health, overcoming their behavioural distress, and restoring their dignity. In most cases these poor creatures would have had no option other than euthanasia.

Remember, some animals have nine lives, others just deserve a second chance.

    Thank you.
