    a. Working Families
    b. www.workingfamilies.org.uk
    c. Advice and support for working parents and carers
    d. Working Families advises over 5,000 mainly low-income working parents and carers each year about their rights at work via a free helpline: 0800 013 0313. Advice is given on a variety of issues, including maternity leave, how to request flexible working, entitlement to claim in-work benefits and much more.

They also run a 3,000 strong support network for parents and carers of disabled children and work with employers to help create more family-friendly practices.

Working Families fights to make sure working parents have real choice in balancing the demands of family, work and community at different stages in their lives. In doing this, they work to help everyone to realise their full potential in the workplace and at home.

    (a) The Food Chain
    (b) www.foodchain.org.uk
    (c) Nutrition services for people living with HIV-related illnesses
    (d) The Food Chain (in London) provides nutrition services including home delivered meals, essential groceries and nutrition advice to men, women and children who are chronically sick and housebound as a result of HIV-related illnesses. The aim to ensure that those living with the virus and adversely affected by lack of access to appropriate food have the ability to get well and stay well. The charity's clients also include people with little or no income. One client's quote: "I had not eaten properly for weeks before I got my first meal from you. I had been so ill and felt too weak to cook. I could not believe the wonderful food you sent me and my daughter and I thank everyone."
  • I think Girl Guiding UK should be considered especially as they will be celebrating nearly 100 years shortly.:T
  • I would like to nominate the MS Society.

    http://www.mssociety.org.uk/

The charity supports anyone affected by MS.

I am affected by MS and through this charity I have met people who are wheelchair bound and live in care homes. These people need continued support as do the people who care for the wheelchair bound at home. Despite their difficulties I have been impressed by the cheerfulness of the people I have met who have MS. I would like there to be a greater awareness of the difficulties faced by the wheelchair bound and their carers. I would like there to be better communication between those who care for MS sufferers in care homes and outside services - so that the MS sufferers can connect with the wider community more often.

    c. A Rabbit and Guinea Pig Rescue Centre.
    d. This is a small charity which helps rescue and save the lives of unwanted guinea pigs and rabbits. They try to re-home many of them. They receive no funding other than what they raise by selling donated items and kind gifts from local people. Beech Tree Bunnies is desperately in need of a new Animal House, Presently using an old, dark and leaky stable. They are currently trying to raise money for a new Animal Shelter with windows and fitted hutches so they can take in more unwanted pets.

  • WATER AID
    http://www.wateraid.org/uk/

WaterAid works in 17 countries providing water, sanitation and hygiene education to some of the world's poorest people.

There may not be enough food for everone in the world, but there surely IS enough water! It should be the responsibility of the governments of developed countries to make sure everyone has water for household and agricultural use; but in the meantime, it's down to WATER AID.
I think it's wicked that WE have water in every home, we can leave the taps on and it hardly matters, while not so far away, people are walking 20 miles to carry water home, while others are dying of thirst and diseases from dirty water. Thanks for reading.:j

    c. Direct help and care for disabled children and families in the UK

    d. Like me everyone using this site is aware that the cost of living is on the up everything from your morning paper, filling up your car to paying your mortgage all of which put strains on family life. Now put into that mix living with a severely disabled child who you love dearly. There is nothing you wouldn’t do for your child, however you have been denied basic equipment by the state, whether that be a powered wheelchair, a specialist car seat or specialist and secure bed. In order to have equipment that will make life a little easier you will scrimp and save from friends and relatives and now in many cases we find parents spiraling into debt and borrowing huge amounts of money to buy equipment. Newlife exists to improve the quality of life for these children and families. Last year we gave grants totaling £1.2million to over 700 families in need. Please do join us in making a real and lasting difference to disabled children throughout the UK.

    a. Bone Cancer Research Trust
    b. http://www.bonecancerresearch.org.uk
    c. Research into causes, treatment of Primary Bone Cancer
    d. Around 400 young people around the ages of 10 and 20 years develop bone cancer each year in the UK; although it can occur in young children and older adults. I had never heard of this type of cancer until our 21 year old daughter was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma. Current treatment depends on the intensive use of chemotherapy, surgery and in some cases radiation therapy. Our daughter went through a year of intense chemotherapy, surgery and physiotherapy. Thankfully she is now in remission. Many patients survive but some do not. Currently, the survival rate for OSTEOSARCOMA is some 55% at 5 years and that for EWING’S SARCOMA is around 60% at 5 years.
More research needs to be done into the causes and treatment of this devastating disease.
  • a) Make-A-Wish Foundation UK
    b) www.makeawish.org.uk
    c)The UK's leading wishgranting charity
d)At any given time, over 20,000 children in the UK are living with life-threatening conditions. A lot of these children miss out on doing the things that kids their age are experiencing. Make-A-Wish try to help the child and their family enjoy magical experiences which create memories they can cherish forever. Whether a wish is to be a princess or a policeman for a day, own the latest computer equipment, meet a favourite celebrity or enjoy some special time away from home with their family, a wish come true brings so much joy to a child's life.
Seeing the smile on the child’s face when they have their magical wish granted is an amazing feeling and one I will never forget.
  • a. TaxAid
    b.https://www.taxaid.org.uk
    c. Gives tax help to those who cannot afford to pay for it
    d. I am a volunteer for taxaid and see how they are the only route for those who are struggling to deal with the immensely complex tax rules but cannot afford to pay for the help that they need. Although it is not such an emotive issue as some of those already nominated, it is a lifeline for those who use it and is invaluable in providing support to a hugely disadvantaged part of community.
