  • The Association for Young People with M.E.
    www.ayme.org.uk
It provides help and support for m.e. sufferers under the age of 26.
This charity is incredibly worthwhile and severely under funded. It raises awareness of m.e. and provides invaluable support for those under 26 suffering from it as well as for their families through it’s website, bi-monthly magazine and help lines.

I nominate the Parkinson's Disease Society
    http://www.parkinsons.org.uk/
supporting all people affected by Parkinson's disease

My father has had this debilitating disease since he was 40. He has been in a nursing home since he was 55. This is not just a disease that affects old people, and currently there is no cure. I feel this website should support this charity in looking after people with Parkinsons, providing vital information and services, and funding research into cures.
I realise I'm quite far at the back of the queue for nominating, but please follow the link and find out more, even if you decide not to support me.

Many people have nominated cancer charities and whilst I support this, there are at least partial treatments which can lead to cures for many forms of cancer. There is currently no cure for Parkinson's disease.
  • I would like to nominate the Polycystic kidney disease charity
    www.pkdcharity.org.uk.
PKD is an inherited chronic kidney disease which has no cure. Many people end up on dialysis and have to have kidney transplants. The disease becomeapparant between 30 to 50 years. An estimated 12.5 million people are affected worldwide

    a. Willow Wood Hospice.
    b. http://www.willowwood.info
    c. Provides Palliative Care to those suffering life-threatening illnesses.
    d. The Hospice is a place of warmth and comfort set in a homely environment which is often a relief to those who have spent months - sometimes years - in and out of hospital. Contrary to belief, the Hospice is full of life, love and laughter; staff ensure patients maintain their dignity and live life to the full within their own limitations.
    Supporting for personal reasons also.
  • (a) Derian House Childrens Hospice

    (c) Hospice supporting terminally ill children and their families
    (d) Derian House does a fantastic job supporting terminally ill families and their children. Despite the incredible sadness of the situation of the children and families, the hospice seems to have a happy vibe to it and families in the North West benefit greatly from its support. The hospice was the vision of one man and recieves no statutory funding. I have never had to use the hospice and hope to goodness I never have to, but its there for anyone who ever needs it. Please support this charity

    The Pituitary Foundation
    www.pituitary.org.uk
Provides support to patients, their families, friends and carers.
I had a Pituitary Tumour in 2003 (causing the lifethreatening Cushings Disease), and neurosurgery but ran the FLM 08 to raise awareness and more than £2000. Russell Watson and now Martin Bashir both suffered because of this condition. The Bristol-based charity gives information on medical and lifestyle issues faced by sufferers of pituitary disease and increases public awareness of pituitary disorders, but often gets overlooked in the shadow of malignant tumours in the brain. Pituitary conditions can be just as devastating, but patients can still live their dreams and achieve goals with support and advice. Anyone can fall victim, but how do you share the problem if people you know don't know about your condition?

  • a, LENNOX CHILDREN'S CANCER FUND

    b, www.lennoxccf.org.uk

c, the charity provides financial support in a number of ways including welfare grants, crisis break holidays and emotional assistance. In 2007 the charity helped over 600 families nationwide.

d, the charity owns five holiday homes around the english coastline which are used solely to give families we support a much needed break away from hospitals, doctors and treatments. Demand on all the resourses the charity offers increases each year, not least the constant refurbishment and running costs of the holiday homes. Therefore any donation which enables the Lennox to meet all financial demands on the charity whilst helping many families in need at a stressful time in their life, is truly welcome.:T

Promoting a positive approach to living with Vitiligo.

Vitiligo is quite a common skin condition causing white patches to appear anywhere on the face & body through the result of the loss of pigmentaion of the skin. It developes with no apparent reason & at the moment there is no cure. Although not life threatening it can cause extreme distress to sufferers because of its unusual appearence. It affects at least 1 in every 100 people throughout the world including the UK (I know as I have it myself), any race and people of both sexes equally. It can begin at any age though about 50% will develop it before the age of 25. The Society has a bank of knowledge and their support has helped thousands of sufferers, young & old but it cannot function without financial support.
  • MS Society Scotland - http://www.mssocietyscotland.org.uk/

One in 500 people in Scotland have been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.

This neurological condition affects people in many different ways and can be very debilitating. The Scociety provides a huge amount of support to sufferers and their carers, and others who are affected in some way.

The Society provides information and useful information and links for those who have been diagnosed. This includes providing grants to help people with things like mobility aids, to help them live a normal life.

Everyone will know someone whose life has been affected by MS to some degree - whether they know it or not! The Society does great work - a very good cause.
