1. Alzheimer's Society - Carlisle Branch.
2. http://www.alzheimers.org.uk/BranchWebsites/Carlisle/
3. Helping the helpless & providing necessary carer relief.
4. This branch provide unstintingly caring wonderfully helpful great terrific brilliant non-sectarian, non-religious, completely unbiased help & support through their day centre & home support facility - from a small team of absolutely dedicated (predominantly) fantastic ladies - working oh-so-hard on very limited (small) budgets (dependent on others generosity) to provide a much needed fuller life for those who's memories have deteriorated, often to such an extent that they cannot look after themselves, nor even remember their very close loved ones, who invariable struggle so very very hard to provide for and look after them 24/7 through this terrible illness of which there is no cure and limited relief available... unless the branch can recruit & pay further staff to expand their very stretched services?0 -
The Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts
https://www.wildlifetrusts.org
Promoting an environment rich in wildlife for everyone.
The most important work of the Wildlife Trusts (there are 47, county-based trusts. RSWT is the umbrella body) is to undertake landscape scale conservation. That is, they recreate, restore and manage and advise on some huge areas of land to keep them in good shape for wildlife. This is not fluffy bunny stuff - this is trying to pull back some of what we have lost through decades - centuries - of blind economic growth and now climate change. Without this work species will become extinct in the UK. And what the human species is slow to understand is that we are all inter-related and that when we lose it, it eventually affects us all. Best human-centric example - if our wetlands dry out you can bet there will be increased flooding.0 -
a. Ty Hafan in Cardiff in South Wales
b. ty Hafan provides respite, palliative and end of life care to children in wales with life-limiting conditions. | Ty Hafan
c. Provides restbite for families with Children with life threatening dissabilities.
d. Tŷ Hafan was established in 1999 to provide respite, palliative and end of life care to the children in Wales who suffer from life limiting conditions. Life limiting conditions are those which mean that the child or young person is not expected to reach nineteen years of age.
Children suffer from various conditions, such as Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, Cystic Fibrosis and Celebral Palsy. Some children are diagnosed at birth; others receive no diagnosis or at some point treatment is abandoned. Children and their families might receive our support for many years or just for a few days at the end of life. Either way, Tŷ Hafan provides love, care and support for the children and their families absolutely free of charge.
Tŷ Hafan, the children's hospice in wales, is a registered charity and was established entirely from public donations. It now costs £2.5 million a year to run the hospice and all but 17% (Government funding) is raised through the generosity of our donors and supporters.0 -

People who suffer from bipolar can often often loose touch with reality when high, a side effect of which is both spending and/or being unable to manage their finances. A new project from the MDF aims to provide financial awarness training to enable them to deal with the debt issues and how to put systems in place (eg power of attourney) to prevent it happening again.0 -
a. National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society (NRAS)
b. http://www.rheumatoid.org.uk/
c. Provides support and information for people with RA.
d. Rheumatoid Arthritis is a chronic, progressive and disabling auto-immune disease affecting 0.8% of the UK adult population. It is an incredibly painful condition, can cause severe disability (this varies between individuals and depends on how severe/aggressive the disease is) and ultimately affects a person’s ability to carry out everyday tasks. The disease can progress very rapidly, causing swelling and damaging cartilage and bone around the joints. Any joint may be affected but it is commonly the hands, feet and wrists.
I've suffered from RA since the age of 23, and still find it hard when people don't understand that arthritis can affect at any age. It can be a debilitating disease but with the right health team and medication life can be nearly normal. NRAS are a patient led national charity that does a fantastic job supporting sufferers through support groups, producing literature and political campaigning.0 -

- Help the Hospices
- www.helpthehospices.org.uk
- The national charity for the UK hospice movement
- Every moment is precious. That is why every year hospices help over 250,000 patients living with cancer and other terminal illnesses – adding life to days even when days cannot be added to lives. The 240 hospices in the UK care for terminally ill patients in the hospice itself, through day care and in the patient’s own home. Hospice care also extends to patient’s friends, families and loved ones and is given completely free of charge. Hospices have to raise £400 million every year just to keep going, making the support of this website absolutely crucial. Help the Hospices is the national charity supporting the entire hospice movement in the UK. Please shortlist and vote for Help the Hospices!

Jack's place @ naomi house childrens hospice
www.naomihouse.org.uk/who/jacksplace/index.aspx
to build and run a hospice for teenagers
Jack's place is to be a hospice for teenagers and young adults. It will be only the third of it's kind in the country. Naomi house caters for children up to 18, but then there is no provision. With medical advances, many children with terminal conditions are living longer - this is great - but their needs also become greater and their families need for respite is as great as ever. Jack's place will provide the best of care for those children and young people, whilst giving their families desperately needed time off.
My son is now 17 and severely disabled. He loves going to Naomi House for their teenage lad weekends, which are usually themed around cars, football, computer games, james bond - all the things all teenage boys are interested in. He has a great time, while myself and my husband get a full night's sleep and get to spend time with our two younger daughters, who usually have to take a back seat. Until the prospect of Jack's place came up - we were worried about how we would managed when Adam turned 18. Adult hospices would not be suitable.
The first turf was cut last Monday - building work can now start, but another £6million is needed to set up and run the hospice.
