a) Childhood Eye Cancer Trust
b) http://www.chect.org.uk/
c) Dedicated in providing support and research of Retinoblastoma
d) Retinoblastoma is rare. Between 40-50 children are newly diagnosed each year in the UK, and it accounts for only about 3 out of every 100 cancers occurring in children under the age of 15 years. It is usually diagnosed around the age of 1, less than 5% diagnosed after the age of 5.
Retinoblastoma is a fast growing eye cancer of early childhood. This cancer develops in the cells of the retina. CHECT is a relatively small charity compared to others and is often overlooked. CHECT require funding to be able to continue in their research and raising awareness of the condition which quite often is not diagnosed until quite late, resulting in the child losing an eye and undertaking additional treatment such as radiotherapy/chemotherapy they are also dedicated to supporting the children and their families throughout their lives. I know from personal experience how CHECT have helped families.Supporting the Childhood Eye Cancer Trust0 -

(a) The Mary How Trust for Cancer Prevention
(b) www.maryhowtrust.org
(c) Offers free health screenings to detect serious illnesses.
(d) I've followed the forums but not posted till now - this is such a worthwhile cause! The Mary How Trust for Cancer Prevention aims to spot the early signs of serious & life-threatening illnesses. Mary How, a young mother of two, died from bowel cancer in 1987. Earlier detection and treatment of the disease could have saved her life. This charity offers free health screenings so that everyone can benefit from checking up on their health. It has a clinic and mobile screening unit in Sussex but you do not have to live in Sussex to book an appointment - everyone is welcome. The Mary How Trust is independent and receives no funding from the state; it relies on donations and fundraising and screens some 1850 people each year. Health screening for all, regardless of ability to pay: "Stay healthy, take control".0 -

c. Voluntary Civil Aid to the Emmergency Services.
d. CAVRA provides teams of volunteers who have the required skills, experience and local knowledge, as well as the necessary equipment and communications facilities, to be able to be of genuine assistance to the official Emergency Services. We will provide this service at any time of the day or night, without charge, in any situation where one of the official Emergency Services, or other approved Organisation decides that their efforts would benefit from the kind of support that we can offer. Our motto is SERVING, SEARCHING, PROTECTING, SAVING.
Our volunteers fund much of their own personal eqiupment and training. However operational costs exist which need to be covered by fund-raising. By helping CAVRA financially we can train more and provide a better service to the community it supports and enhance our capabilities.0 -

d. An exceptional school and sports academy in Newcastle which caters for the above. Recently received an outstanding Ofsted report due to it's exceptionally high standards. Families are well supported with courses and advice.
This is personal as I have watched my much loved autistic son thrive and make huge progress in education and social skills. The dedication of the staff from the Head teacher down is commendable. Don't take my word for it...read the Ofsted report.:A0 -
This is a charity very close to my heart. To date, they are one of the only, if not THE only emergency service not funded by the government which I think is an outrage.
1) Royal National Lifeboat Institute.
2) rnli.org.uk
3) Saves lives at sea.
4) My grandfather died by drowning at sea in Scarborough when I was 12 years old. The RNLI picked him up and brought him back to shore for him to have a proper cremation. Without the RNLI we would have a lot more deaths/major incidents at sea that we cannot cope with and the fact that the government do not contribute to their funding whatsoever proves what a sham this country is.
This is my vote and I hope you see how important these men and women are who do not get paid for their work. Bless every single one of you. What does money do for you that doesn't end up hurting you?

C. Promotes the well-being of the elderly in Calderdale
Unknown to many people each Age Concern is an individual company that has to find its own funding. Some of the services we offer are Shoping & Cleaning, Information & Advice, Befriending, Advocacy, Day Care & Activity Centres, Home from Hospital plus much more. The staff are dedicated and trained in their field along with the many volunteers that help out. We are at the moment trying to raise money to help the elderly in poverty in Calderdale.0
