Well, I got my confirmation email on 19/10 and the £1 cheque has left my current account, but so far no password in the post. I've just emailed them... we'll see and I'll post back here with another update.

..And no sooner had I posted the above, the password arrived in the post.

Now all I have to do is figure out how to pay-in money. My direct debit needs setting-up, right?

Either push it in from your bank, or pull it in from ICICI. The latter taks 8 days for the first one.
    Conjugating the verb 'to be":
-o I am humble -o You are attention seeking -o She is Nadine Dorries
  • Those who are reading these notes will no doubt be pleased to learn that ICICI actually paid me MY money (almost £10,000) , eventually by CHAPS , on Friday at 2.55 pm (ie too late to do anythuing with it then) . Apparently there had been a problem with my bank recognising their own sort code !!!! So it took from first thing on Friday 14th. October to last thing on Friday 28th. October for them to let me have my money . They assure me that they acted entirely in accordance with their terms and conditions and they were not responsible for any delays . I have actually lost interest by using this bank , compared to if I had left the funds where they were . Beware .

Lots of 'theys' and 'thems' and also a 'this bank' make the real meanings of your post all a bit vague. And of course, ICICI bank are also 'your bank', are they not?

Reading between the lines, I take it your linked current account bank were the ones who couldn't recognise their own sort code and not ICICI HiSAVE, who indeed did as instructed and properly too. All in all, the delay was NOT created by ICICI. Correct?
  • Not quite correct as they had previously used the sort code correctly and , I felt , they were making excuses for the delay . who has ever heard of a cleraring bank experiencing problems in receiving a transfer of money when the paying bank has used the correct sort code ? In addition , if ICICI had experienced a problem they did not let me know or explain the situation until I chased them . Their attitude throughout has been most vague ; unhelpful and downright misleading . I am pleased to have received my money back from ICICI and to be able to move it when I wish and to know that the movement of funds will occur when it ought to .

I open my account which took for ever and then did test run by transfering via dd £1000 and then tranfering £500 back out which worked ok.I then tried to transfer in 25K but it wouldn't work so tried 24,999 which did work. Then to my horror saw that they had asked my bank for three payments instead of the one and as these could not be met I ended up with costs of £60.They didn't answer any of my emails and I had to write to the Reading office, I never got a written reply but got a phone call to say they would pay back the charges but only got £30.

I would not suggest anyone uses them until they sort themselves out.

    Hi,

I have just applied for this account a week or so ago and noticed my cheque was cashed pretty instantly, not heard anything else from ICICI though.

Also on my Nationwide FlexAccount, they have set up 2 direct debits, with a one digit Originators Reference difference ...XXXX21 and ...XXXX22, have they done this in error?

When paying money in is it best to use ICICI DD to pull the money or is it best to set up a bill payment with my Nationwide FlexAccount to the account no and sort code of the ICICI account?

    Cheers,

    Mike

Several people, including myself, have had problems with ICICI's dd system. The only disadvantage to 'pushing' the money from your linked account is that you will not earn interest any on that money during the 3 working days that the transfer takes. With a dd the money sits in your linked account, typically until a day or two AFTER it is credited to your ICICI account, unless that situation has changed recently.

My wife and I applied online for separate Hi-Save accounts on 26th October.
Confirmation emails from ICICI bank were late arriving so ended up telephoning their
C/S Dept. Talking to them was next to useless. Eventually we both received the correct emails.

On 28th October, we each posted a £1 cheque to ICICI bank and have heard nothing since. I checked my linked account and the £1 cheques appear on our statement on
07th November. Allowing 2 days in the post, that’s 8 days before they were credited to our accounts.

This morning I checked my linked account Direct Debits list and discovered that ICICI bank had set up four on 03rd November. Two for each of us. My two reference numbers are concurrent, my wife’s are three digits apart. The originators name was absent from all four. I contacted ICICI bank, C/S Dept, and explained the situation. First I was informed that ICICI had not set up any Direct Debits as they had no authorisation to do so. When I pointed out that a completed Direct Debit Mandate was included in their online application form and I had a printout of it, they changed their mind and I was informed that my complaint would be forwarded to their banking staff and somebody will contact me within the next two working days.

This afternoon my wife and I received through the post our online passwords however, these documents state that the passwords must be used in conjunction with a CIF code contained in emails previously sent to both of us. Just one problem, we have never received those emails. Again I contacted ICICI, C/S Dept, and explained the situation. Again I was informed that a bank official will contact me within two working days.

This bank is a joke. How Martin can say that their account opening procedures and Customer Service skills have improved recently and recommend them as a “Best Buy"
    is beyond me.

My advice to anyone contemplating opening an account with ICICI bank is don’t.
Would you trust these amateurs with your hard earned? I wouldn’t.
