Vodafone mobile broadband

I am moving in a couple of weeks, I had real problems with BT as the new place doesn't have a landline and they are charging me £124.99 to put one in.
I have seen loads of posters about Vodafone mobile broadband and wondered whether this would be a better option, I am guessing I don't need a landline, just be in the coverage area?
At the mo I pay £11.50 (or whatever it is) for BT line rental, and £9.99 a month for broadband... if Vodafone are charging £25 then I will be paying a bit extra but not having to pay £124.99 for a new line.
I'm wondering whether this is a good idea, has anyone had any problems??0 -
I think its a terrible idea! If you go over your allowance they charge £5 a gb. I heard a rumour that sky will pay your BT installation charge if you take their see surf speak. Or virgin media?
I think T-Mobile may do an unlimited version - only seen in papers i believe -dont quote me!0 -
Vodafone actually charge £15 per GB if you go over... I'm not worried about that, I am more concerned about saving money in the long run, I never go over my allowance.
I don't want to get sky, so that idea is out... I really don't need a landline that's why I thought mobile broadband would be the answer.0 -
Well incase anyone is interested I just ordered Mobile Broadband from Vodafone, it will go onto my existing account with them which means a very simple process!
I have 14 days to decide whether I would like to keep it, so I will see how it goes...0 -
Just an update on this... it's pants!! I have just called them today to send it back... the speed is about as good as dial-up! They suggested I put the sim from the usb stick into my phone and visit 4 websites which may upgrade the sim card... it didn't work!
I'm not paying £25 for dial-up, it's ridiculous... luckily my new landlord has just said he'll pay the BT connection fee, which means I can go back to fixed broadband which is a huge relief!0 -
Can anyone help with the settings required for sending POP3 email using the above.
When purchasing the modem from the Voda shop they said I would be able to send my POP 3 email using it.
My home BB is with NTL and I have rang Voda CS who said I need to change the outgoing mail server settings to...
smtp.vodafone.net
Username. web
Password web
Needless to say this does`nt work, neither does changing smtp to pop.
Now they say there systems are down and they can`t help until they are restored and don`t know when that will be.
I have a few email accounts and don`t want to have to keep changing the settings back and forth each time I need to use the mobile BB.
Is there another way??

Has anyone else applied for Vodafone Mobile Broadband online? I went via Quidco (who have a very attractive £90 cashback offer) but have been declined (again! ). They credit check with Experian so I took a look at my report and I cant see anything wrong with it ...
. I'm on the electoral roll ... any other ideas why I could be rejected?
Cheers,

Thanks for flagging this up to me Tom, Assuming you get Quidco on a 12 month contract @ £15 a month it works out at £7.50 net per month. Anyone know if this is the best deal for 12 months? cheers
Anyone know if this is the cheapest way of getting mobile broadband at the moment? Assume £15 a month for 12 months lesscheers.North London is Lilywhite0 -
I was looking around at mobile broadband deals, and I have found the following that may be of interest:
Currently if you go through quidco you get £90 cashback for taking out a mobile broadband contract. You can choose 24months, 12months, I am not sure if you will get the cashback but there is also a 30 day option.
I have taken out the 12 month contract where you get 3GB mobile broadband for £15 per month, then with my £90 cashback, should only work out at £7.50 per month!
This is good for people like me who don't have a landline, and also don't want virgin broadband.0 -
A relative a has recently purchased a Desktop PC from PC World and was talked into getting Vodafone Mobile Broadband (24 Month Contract, £15 pm) as means of home broadband. Unfortunately once set up they could only get GPRS at home, not faster speeds as promised by PC World.
Due to a holiday they are outside the usual 15 day period to cancel. Several visits to PC World and phone calls to Vodafone (passed from one to the other) have not resolved the problem.
Yesterday relative returned to PC World as the sales assistant said he would speak to Vodafone that day. He had not, and again fobbed relative off. He did apparantly do something with the software on USB module to take it from 3.6Mb to 7.2Mb. Now they can get no internet at all not even GPRS.
Relative is going to contact Voda for last time later and if no joy cancel Direct Debit. I've advised to at least write a letter explaining what has happened.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.0
