There is a delicious irony about business people like the original poster, and many others, here using a website forum labelled as promoting "consumer revenge" complaining about initiatives designed to advance the interests of consumers over vendors.

Ebay vendors who offer excellent customer service, don't rip off their customers or treat them with contempt, and can communicate clearly, are much more likely to survive than many of the chancers who flog poor value or stolen goods and services with mis-spelled descriptions and inflated p&p and who are at greatest risk of falling foul of the recent changes. Most of the poor "victims" have just not been trying hard enough.

You are assuming that these many 'vendors' have been restricted or suspended because they are chancers flogging stolen goods or giving bad service. Wrong. Just visit Tamebay to see the dozens, probably thousands, who are top drawer sellers who have had their ebay businesses ruined by stupid buyers leaving unneccesary neg or neutral fedback and ruining their ratings. The whole system has become grossly unfair, and to say the victims haven't been trying hard enough, you obviously have no understanding of the gravity of this appalling situation that has developed on ebay.

Ebay was mainly used by ordinary people to buy and sell their own goods. Buyers didn't mind waiting a week for delivery, after all most of us have families, jobs, etc, and are not sitting by the post box ready to post the item as soon as it's sold. Now, however, man buyers have become more demanding, expect next day delivery, and complain bitterly when their purchase is not with them next day. How many other shopping web sites offer next day delivery? Some, not all. It's accepted that many will take 7-14 days. But, because you can complain on ebay and have the power to leave negs, people are feeling pressured to post items next day or same day in mnay cases, because the sword of Damacles is hanging over them from impatient ebayers. It's not fair, and ebay do not address the problem, they have only fuelled it. The feedback system is now a complete joke, so that ebay businesses employing lots of people can be destroyed by malicious buyers, clueless buyers, impatient and unreasonable buyers. And where is the right to appeal? Far from being a fun place to buy and sell, ebay has become a fearful place, sellers at the mercy of rogues, who know full well that they can destroy businesses at the click of a mouse. So, thousands of ebay sellers are leaving, shutting shop because they can no longer compete with such an uncertain marketplace. Leaving unless they have been booted off already through some loser chucking negs at them. It's happening. Check out Tamebay.com

No, I'm just saying it is ironic that they're coming to MSE of all places to whinge.

I have no idea what Tamebay is - some kind of ganghut for failing and embittered powersellers?

As far as "obviously having no understanding" of eBay - well I and my money are probably just not good enough to bid for the goods and services flogged there.

And that was good. The advent of the "powersellers" has changed it for the worse.

The marketplace is changing - adapt or do something else.

Tell me, have the aggrieved powersellers gone so far as to put up a petition on the No 10 website yet? I wouldn't put it past them!

"Dear PM, we want you to intervene with eBay bosses to make them not be so beastly to us people who have bravely set up small businesses on the Ebay internet site to flog all manner of goods, from strappy tops from Topshop (BNWT) to Genuine Louisa Vuitton Handbags. As things stand the losers we call customers have all the rights and if we disappoint or offend our customers in any way we can get a poor reputation. That is just not British. Do we pay taxes for this kind of treatment? (Some of us do if we have to.)"

I had a buyer who didn't pay, kept making excuses about paypal , but | gave the option to pay by cheque /postal order but they obviously just didn't want to pay. Their feedback showed they had done this a couple of times as they had negatives. I can't leave a negative to warn other sellers. I have checked recently and this buyer is still doing the same as sellers are leaving a positive feedback (the only option they have) and saying they are a none paying bidder. Buyers can just decide to not go through with a sale now with no fear of having negatives. Ebay should have left the feedback system as it was

Moral of that story seems to be if you want a good high positive feedback then start messing sellers around..if they all leave positives as a rewards for such behaviour you can increase your feedback very quickly.

Erm, Dustangle....this is a real problem, your attitude is exactly what we face from the ebay hierachy. Do something else you say? Thousands of businesses are built around ebay and have been for years. With ebay killing the businesses off, where do they go now? Answers on a post card. You seem to have many.
