We are doing it on normal aida. (not sure if it's meant to be proper bookmark aida?) When it is finished how do you disguise the back?

Hi Poppet - re finishing the back of bookmark, I think you can use iron on interfacing to disguise back. Or you can buy card book mark holders, similar to greeting cards, but long and thin that you put the sewing in. IYSWIM!
Hope this helps a wee bit!

Hello everybody. I am part way through "Winter Nostalgia"" (I like snow :D) but the last piece I actually completed was an album cover of Ultravox's for their recent tour (designed, sewn and framed in 3 weeks - I was shattered) - and I got it signed by all the band too :j:j (very excited about this). I will try and upload a photo of it. I've also got loads of stuff waiting to go to the framers (John Clayton's Sunflowers panel, "Wake up and smell the coffee" and L&L Celtic Autumn) and a Christmas stocking to make up for my nephew.

I'm also in the process of clearing out a lot of my magazines @ 99p or £1.20 (depending on whether they have a kit or not). I was going to put them on e-bay but now I've found this thread I'd like to offer my fellow MSE-ers "first refusal". If anyone is interested send me a message and I will send you the list (it's a spreadsheet and there's a lot of them )...... then I've got to start on decluttering the suitcases on top of the wardrobe...... :o

Too many kits and not enough hours! :rotfl:
But I'm going to say this once, and once only, Gene. Stay out of Camberwick Green :D

Hmm not sure. The cross stich magazines have forums and they might be able to help you. They also have downloadable free patterns some of them. You could always try a site called craft bubble as well? Would assisi work well with them? You could always look for those patterns as well. Hope you find some.

  • Hi folks,

I lurk far more than I post, but I have been stitching!

However, I'm getting a tad frustrated. Every time I open a new magazine (even if its only new to me - I won 7 of the 8 mags that I bid for on ebay in my fit of madness ), I find something else that I want to stitch! And there just isn't enough time in the day, what with working and general day to day living.

Also, since I started stitching again at the beginning of the year, I've been running one bigger piece alongside a smaller piece (generally birthday cards), cos I can take the smaller piece to work to do at lunchtime. But birthday cards have deadlines attached to them, which means that doing them sometimes spills over into stitching time that should go to the bigger piece. And having started making birthday cards, I feel obliged to continue making them so that nobody feels left out. Does anyone else feel like this? Has anyone packed in the card stitching altogether and just concentrated on pieces (large or small) that they really want to stitch?

To sort of highlight my query, here is my latest finish - a birthday card for my step-uncle (adapted from a Father's Day chart in Cross Stitcher issue 213) -

and my main work in progress -

which could be so much further on if I didn't have to hit deadlines on the smaller pieces icon9.gif!

    Apologies for the whinge.

    Regard to all,
    Ro

    Hi Ro

I gave up on cards ages ago, i now only do them for v special occassions and v special people. Yours is great tho, I'm sure it will be appreciated.

At Christmas I started stitiching a set of 3 pics for my friends sons nursery. Since then I have found out that I am expecting too but feel I really have to finish the pics I have got for him before I start on anything for my baby. Or finish anything I have got for me.

This has put me off altogether and I have yet to start the 2nd or 3rd pic which are to be for his b'day in Nov and Christmas.

You may have just motivated me, I really want to be able to start stitching once my little'un arrives so I must get these finished. I'll start this afternoon whilst trying (again) to clear some of my sky+.

    Afternoon all

Im another one who doesn't do cards -I just have visions of them getting stuffed in drawers after the special day
I have done a few xmas designs earlier this year that are meant to be cards -but Im planning on backing them with some festive fabric and padding them -and put some xmas scent in and hanging them on door handles etc
I really struggle to get "into" smaller designs -so much prefer spending time doing bigger projects for special people ;)

I like doing cards as they're quick and easy and give me my " completed project fix" ! However, I only do for special people, but Id like to build up a stash to cover most occasions. I dont mind if they are not totally revered by the recipient as I get a lot of pleasure doing them! ( Polish my halo, lol!) I think the main thing is not to put yourself under pressure to complete if possible, its meant to be your hobby remember - for pleasure and relaxation!
Mountain Ash - your card is lovely, what is the bigger project ? looks interesting. I agree re the magazines - SO many fab things to do. Im doing the Japanese dolls from 215 Cross Stitcher - guess what, Im making them into cards for my teenage nieces' birthday.

    Have a great weekend everyone!

  • Hi jintyb

The pheasant is from issue 62 of Cross Stitch Gold. It has a companion piece - a toucan - but I am not so keen on this so will not be stitching it.

I have taken on board people's comments re cards, and I think that after I've finished the one that I am doing for my Dad, and done a couple of others that I've already got planned, I will give doing cards a miss, except for really special occasion.

There are just so many other bigger pieces that I want to do for myself. I've fallen in love with John Clayton's flower panels - especially the daisies and the fuchsias - but am currently restraining myself.

What I really, really need is a second pair of scissors as the pair I have has to be moved from project box to project box as I work, and I'm always running the risk of leaving it in the box that I'm not taking with me!

So on Tuesday I am taking the day off and Mum is taking me to a new crafty place that she has found in Sandiacre, Nottingham and I am going to buy scissors. I won't promise only to buy scissors, but that's what I'm going for!

    Regards,
    Ro
