Can I ask, how do you store your needles when not in use? Usually I thread them through a couple of holes in the material of the project I am working on so I don't lose them but they usually end up going rusty (if left for a long time) Cleaning up the needle is easy but the cleaning the material is another matter entirely!!
I have been lucky so far that the time or two its happened I have had the forethought to put the needle at the very edge of the material so the stitching area isn't affected.

Are gold plated needles better than the usual needles that come with kits?
If I did get a gold plated needle how do I know what size I want? I saw some on e-bay and you could choose from 4 sizes, but I usually just use the needle that comes with the kit and typically the size of the needle isn't listed in the 'included in this kit' list.

    Thanks

    Hi Shelly

I use a short sewing needle with a very fine point -great for if you have to go through a strand of fabric and not through the hole ;) and by using the shorter one I wate a teeny tiny bit less thread every time :rotfl:well it is MSE :p -I find the one with the kits feel like a darning needle....
I always stick my needle through the very edge of the fabric.

Jintyb -I use imageshack...its free and takes you through step by step..give me a yell if you get stuck ;)

thanks everyone, unfortunalty i had to have an emergancy cesarian as his heart beat slowed down which was very scary as we had a full term still born baby last year, but thankfully everything was fine and after some oxygen he was as good as gold, just so happy not to be pregnant in this heat lol
poppet i love that picture did it take you long?

Thats right, rub it in about the nasty heat!!! It's far too hot for me.

And poor you with the emergency section. That must have been so scary but I'm very glad you both came out of it unscathed.

I have another question about framing my own work :o

At the moment the material is bigger than I want the finished size to be. When I come to frame it do I just cut it to fit the back board or do I place it where I want it to be, fold over the edges then put the back board on top?

I'm thinking that I cut it because it shouldn't fray once inside the frame?

    Thanks.

    Hi shelly

When I frame I never cut the extra off -then if the frame ever breaks and I can't find one that small I can get a bigger one ;)

I leave the extra, put the back board on -so that the extra fabric is sticking out -means you can pull the fabric nice and tight too :D-then I tape the extra fabric down on the back of the frame.
    Hope that makes sense :p

Ones I have framed myself, I have just folded the excess fabric and taped at the back.

Thanks you both for your replies. I'll leave the excess material on then :D

harley, how long have you got to go now?

Still 12 weeks away yet. Due end September so I guess I'd better get used to this heat as it looks likely to stay for most of the summer.

I have a Glucose test at the hospital tomorrow and have been warned that it will take most of the morning so I am planning on taking the next farm animal in to start stitching for fairy godson. Hopefully I will be able to get quite a bit done between blood tests and stuff.

Just hope its not too hot as I always seem to get sticky fingers and the needle doesn't slide through the fabric as smoothly.

Hope you are all having fun stitching your UFOs

Could you take some baby wipes to clean your hands when you need to?
