Jintyb - I really love the picture of the daisies!! Where did you get that design from?

Looks fantastic in that coloured mount as well.:T
Louise, thanks so much! Dont know what Im more chuffed about - managing to post photos or finishing the picture. That was the one I spilled the tea over!
Its from Heritage Stitchcraft and is part of the range called mini flowers. There are lots to choose from, plus they've just brought out a range of panels in the same style of flowers. I like the freesia one! Could be getting done for my bedroom. I had to get the frame direct from Heritage - they were really helpful and quick delivery. It was £10 for the frame and easy to do myself, so Im happy!

I agree, John Clayton designs are beautiful, I really like them. They look as if theyve been painted or sketched once they're done. My Mum was thrilled with her pressie, so that was the main thing. That one you did for your Mum is gorgeous.:T
RE the heat - I hear ya! Roastin here too - cant sleep at night either cos its so hot. I might just have to have a wee nap in a cool spot.:D Not easy when you,re having hot flushes every two mins!

Can I ask if any of you have had your work laminated before and if so what were the results?

Right, here goes - I rattled up a scrap of work:

    Laminated:

    June2009075.jpg

Actually I was pretty pleased with it - there was no effect at all on either the fabric or the threads from the heat.

Only thing I would say, is make sure your work is really flat before starting the laminating.

I will leave it lying about for a couple of days, to check whether the plastic seperates/comes away from the fabric over time or anything.

If it works - I might add a few bookmarks to my sewing list for stocking fillers :j

Thanks ever so much Louise, I really appreciate you doing that for me. I agree with you, it looks great!

Just showed hubby and he surprised me and said to get my own laminator instead of paying someone else, so now I'm looking around for a laminator deal :D

When you laminate do you cut the plastic before you put it through the laminator or can you cut it to size afterwards?
If you could also post back in a few days to let me know the outcome (if any) of leaving it lying around I'd appreciate it.

    Thanks again! :T

If you're going to use it often, I would recommend getting your own one (I use mine LOADS!) I got mine from ebay, I had a £10 code at the time, so treated myself :D

You're better cutting the plastic after it's been through, mainly because the design could shift as it's feeding through or it might be too small to feed through properly. You would get 2 bookmarks per sheet though.

Will definitely get back to you - will let the kids throw it about a bit, test it's capabilities :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

    Thanks for the advice Louise.

I think I would use it quite often to laminate bookmarks (either stitched ones or just nice pics from magazines) as I love to read, so does my Mum and 2 aunts and they would make nice little presents for birthdays. So even if it didn't get used for anything other than bookmarks it would probably pay for itself quite soon (rather than pay £1 a time in town)

Another question or 2 then I'll stop bugging you :o Are the plastic sheets (not sure of their correct name) you use much of a muchness or are they like paper and have different qualities/grades?
Also prices. Are there deals to be had or is the price the same from where ever you buy?
    What would you recommend?

    Thanks again!

No problem - ask away, always happy to help wherever I can

The laminating pouches come in different thicknesses, the ones I have here are 150 microns or 250 microns.

I usually use the 250 for laminating paper, but decided to us the thinner ones for the fabric - didn't want to risk it being too thick and getting stuck!!

You can easily get a pack of 100 pouches for well under £10. I don't know what price they are in the shops, I have only ever bought mine from ebay (saves hassle lol) although the p&p does bump it up a bit if you do that.

an example of one on there which I would go for:

Thanks so much for your help Louise.

Went shopping today and had a look around for laminators and pouches. I found what I thought was a cracking deal for a laminator online. WHSmith has one for £5! But it said an expected delivery time of 4-6 weeks and I don't want to wait that long! :D Also would only accept a maximum of 200 micron pouches.
I have done some research today as I know next to nothing about laminators.....as you have realised :rotfl: I have decided I would like one that takes up to a maximum thickness of 250 microns so its more versatile.

Then I said to hubby that I wanted to get a proper trimmer to trim my work once done. He said....and I quote...."I have a knife and a metal ruler, you can make do with that" :rotfl:

Now I know what I want I'll look arounf for a day or 2 to get the best deal I can.

Thanks again for all your help. I appreciate it.

    You're welcome :)

Ps - Hobbycraft had trimmers for half price recently, I got myself one, if you have a shop near you, might be worth a look.
