Unfortunately offshore accounts are no longer tax free, so any income will still count in your personal allowance. Search for 'European Savings Tax Directive' for details. Basically you can either choose to have tax deducted at 20% (goes up in the next few years) or the bank can send the details to HMRC - you might have to fill in a tax return.
Unless the rates are better there's nothing to be gained by going offshore. Also remember IoM has a 75% of first £20,000 compensation scheme - much worse than UK.
Thanks for clarifying this - it is important to note that Kaupthing are dilligent in requesting proof of tax status and domicile to this end.
The terms "not resident" "not ordinarily resident" and "domicile" need to be carefully investigated, many UK based accountants who don't deal with overseas taxation make errors based upon the understanding of these terms.0 -

I would have A&L current account (not savings) as you get 8.5% for the first £2.5k savings i would say no but current account yes...0 -
Ok I need some help here! I have got £20k and am looking at what the best options are. I have been recommended to open an ISA with Kaupthing over the Bradford and Bingley. Should I then just put the rest of the money into one of their fixed rate savings accounts or should I start paying lump sums every month off my mortgage?? Can anyone advise me please??0

What current account is this then? I'm amazed there's a charge for BACS.0 -

I'm with Halifax. There's no charge for a BACS transfer. If you have online banking, you can transfer the funds via BACS yourself directly to your Kaupthing account. The process is similar to when you pay bills online. All you need is your KE account number and the sort code.People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -
