That is the plan, I have already started reducing the luxuries and I am doing little things like not using lights when not needed, conserving the water by running the tap slower, reducing the amount of time in the shower, flush the toilet only when needed i.e. "If it's brown flush it down and if it's yellow let it mellow" sort of thing, I keep trying to drum it in to my lass but getting there slowly, the heating is permanently turned off but can be restarted if needed, all wall-warts like mobile chargers are turned off and the telly is not left blaring all of the time. I try to cycle everywhere I can to save bus fares so we are getting there with the finances.

Put a brick in your cistern, it displaces water and means you use less each time you flush. Put a jug of water in the fridge so you avoid running the water for an age when you want a cool drink.
