So basically because of that default with mbna is on there they have closed it even though you don't owe them, what morons they are. I wouldn't go back with them if i was you, sod em'. Do you have any other cards will this affect them?

morons indeed! i am certainly not staying with a bunch of numptys like that, am only annoyed because i like my shiny card and i do like the online service but not much good when get treated like that. on a positive note its given me a kick up backside to check out equifax file and now i can sort out the catalogue of errors on there! thanks for letting me rant guys :D

have got a £200 cap one that have had for years, hopefully that will be ok. not really a problem if it does go it gets paid off every month anyway, is just handy for online purchases. grrr grr and grrr again lol

Oh, don't worry. These issues are sent to test us :)

What grotbags, they don't deserve your business. It's good you're working on clearing both files now. It is daunting at first but it helps to clear them up. Believe me it get's addicted. I end up buying a report every month to make sure no defualts have appeared out of the woodowrk lol. Def dispute the previous MBNA one. I had a Lowell DCA default suddenly spring up on mine in September and sent them a really !!!!!! letter as they were trying to say that I owed 3 £16 or so from 4 years ago  Anyway, I got the default removed, so it's worth persevering. Now if only I could get the legit defaults removed lol

Now, have you tried the Flybe card. Looooads of peeps have got it on here with really decent limits. And this is with defaults. It all helps to improve your credit, and you know to pay it off each month.

Sorry to hear about your health :( You know we like to chat off topic here too, so feel free to vent at any point :)

Don't leave it so long before you come back again!!!

Right, I'm off to bed now. Night All xx
  • I never have a credit card before. Now I have owed my parents a lot of money and have about 1800 overdraft with my NatWest account (limit:2000). I'm on JSA at the moment but will be start working in a few days but won't be paid until the end of this month. Also this month's pay will be small because it's paid for my training before I start my work next month.

As I cannot borrow anymore money from my parents and I am about to reach my overdraft limit, I'm thinking about applying for a credit card just to get me through this first two months.

I am wondering if I have any chance of getting a credit card and in my situation which one is best to apply for. I guess my credit history is very poor (because there isn't any - no credit card, no mobile phone contract .. and also I haven't registered electoral roll with any address before (have moved around too often) - just registered with my current address few days ago.

If I get a credit card, will I be able to take money out of my credit card to pay off part of my NatWest OD?

If I want to take a mobile phone contract, how long will I have to wait and what I should do in order to pass the credit check?

Sorry for bombarding you with so many questions ...:o ... I'll be grateful for any advice :heartsmil
  • Want to know something weird...

I have had my Vanquis card for 7 months now. I cut up the card after paying off the balance in full as I got a much better rate MBNA and FlyBe but decided to leave the account open to get the little green 0's on my credit file.

Then 2 weeks ago (about a month after cutting it up) I decided I would need it again as I'm going from weekly pay to monthly pay this month and not paid again now until Dec 9th. Called Vanquis and ordered a replacement card (said I had lost it) and the new card arrived with a new card number.

Checked my credit file today and Vanquis have "settled" my old account and added a new one on to my credit file so now I have one settled account with 7 green 0's and a new account with just 1 green 0?

    Weird?
  • I had that that - I lost/damaged my card twice so ordered replacements . Each of the old cards had different account numbers and show on my credit files as settled accounts.

Well if you need one you need one. You may not be able to get much credit with your record so it may not make a difference. However if you do get one, so long as it doesn't get out of control it will start to improve your rating.

I tried to explain stoozing on MSN to someone I work with. Here's the conversation... quite astounding...

(Names have been changed to protect the stupid...)
    Calibrax says:
credit cards are great if you use them right you can make money from them
    Fred says:
yes but it rarely ever happens, they are the ones that make money
    Calibrax says:
not as rare as you think, making money off cards....
    Calibrax says:
    check out http://www.stoozing.com/
    Calibrax says:
basically you get a credit card with a 0% offer, max it out, put the cash into a high interest account, and you make a profit
    Fred says:
    yes this is old scam
    Fred says:
ur not likly to make much unless its large amounts
    Fred says:
    not worth while
    Calibrax says:
    you'd be surprised
    Calibrax says:
plenty of people on moneysavingexpert.com making loads
    Calibrax says:
and it even improves your credit rating, as you make regular payments, and you have a large amount in a savings account
    Fred says:
its all a scam, they make u think u can make a killing when in reality its nothing
    Calibrax says:
no scam, they dont charge for this, this is free advice
    Fred says:
u need to have at least 10k
    Fred says:
and then u would make around £25 from it
    Calibrax says:
look nobody is going to give away loads of cash for free, but there are amounts to be made, and it all adds up
    Fred says:
yes only if have 20k or more to play with
    Calibrax says:
if i max out a £5k credit card for a year, and put it in a 5% interest ISA I make £250 a year in interest
    Calibrax says:
    thats £250 in my pocket
    Calibrax says:
    for very little effort
    Fred says:
well there are better ways of making money, i wouldnt use this one. it is designed to get people to max out their card and the probability of them paying it all back in time is very low
    Fred says:
so the credit cards make the money in the end
    Fred says:
plus im a bit greedy - i want more return
    Fred says:
im planning at the moment to go into property and land investment this time next year
    Fred says:
    this will be abroad
    Fred says:
thats where u can make big money
    Calibrax says:
trust me, you can learn a lot from this guy Martin Lewis
    Calibrax says:
    moneysavingexpert.com
    Fred says:
ok i will check it out
    Calibrax says:
hey, the probabilty of them paying it back isn't low at all
    Calibrax says:
take the money out of high iterest account, pay it back
    Calibrax says:
easy, you're covered 100% - you just keep the interest
    Calibrax says:
trust me, Ive read up on it a lot and I know people on the site who are making serious money
    Calibrax says:
like having £25k "stoozed" and making over a grand a year in interest
    Fred says:
    thats not serious money
    Fred says:
    1k over year is peanuts
    Calibrax says:
    a grand for free?
    Fred says:
yes grand for free but look at the investment
    Fred says:
    25k
    Calibrax says:
there's no investment, you're investing THEIR money
    Fred says:
u can use that 25k to make at least 5- 10k in 1 year
    Calibrax says:
thats the point, no risk, no investment
    Fred says:
    if u know how
    Calibrax says:
    not without risk
    Fred says:
    doesnt have to be risk
    Calibrax says:
this is about zero risk guaranteeed return
    Calibrax says:
you can't make 5k from 25k in one year without risk
    Calibrax says:
    not possible
    Fred says:
well theres not much risk if u know how to invest
    Fred says:
    yes u can
    Fred says:
    it is
    Calibrax says:
    b*llocks
    Calibrax says:
    there will always be risk
    Fred says:
    its not b*llocks
    Fred says:
i been making more in some cases
    Calibrax says:
even low risk investments got f*cked in the credit crunch, like pensions
    Fred says:
nope not too much unless something really goes wrong like war
    Fred says:
yes depends where i invest, deosnt have to be in this country
    Calibrax says:
theres no such thing as a zero risk investment that returns 20% a year
    Calibrax says:
    in any country
    Calibrax says:
otherwise ALL the pension funds would be invested in it
    Fred says:
well there is risk but is almost equal to nothing unless something real bad happens like war
    Fred says:
na they wouldnt coz its not up to pension schemes and government to make people money
    Fred says:
    ive been doing it
    Fred says:
    and i have made money
    Fred says:
    and it is possible
    Calibrax says:
you say about going into property and land investment... well, there wasn't a war here, but property prices have dropped by 20%....
    Fred says:
it is true, but if you had property here then u would then need to decide whether to sell or not
    Fred says:
    it doesnt happen over night
    Fred says:
plus i havent been buying in this country
    Fred says:
one needs to know wot is going on in the market as well, u cant just blindly invest
    Fred says:
in a lot of cases ur investment depends on how strong ur contacts are
    Calibrax says:
    but theres always risk
    Calibrax says:
    no matter what
    Fred says:
in some cases its equal to nothing
    Calibrax says:
the bigger the return the higher the risk - that's basic economics
    Fred says:
in reality its a lot different
    Calibrax says:
this is a basic economic principle, there's no difference between theory and reality for this
    Fred says:
na but im telling u that the principle is not 100% as i have made money
    Fred says:
and in some cases there is no risk
    Fred says:
the problem is that u need to have the money to invest
    Calibrax says:
if you made money, then you fell on the right side of the risk, but it could have gone the other way
    Fred says:
    no it couldnt
    Calibrax says:
its like saying "I bet on a horse and it won 10 times in a row" doesnt guarantee that the 11th time will win
    Fred says:
in the worse case i would get the money back i invested and made no profit
    Fred says:
    but its not betting
    Calibrax says:
    yes it is
    Calibrax says:
look, not everyone can win, correct?
    Fred says:
    yes but thats in betting
    Calibrax says:
for you to make money, someone has to lose money
    Fred says:
we are not talking about gambling
    Calibrax says:
now, there are more intelligent people out there in the world of finance than you or I
    Calibrax says:
who know much more than us
    Fred says:
yes but not everyone has the opportunity
    Fred says:
na i disagree in this matter
    Fred says:
wot im talking about has a lot to do with contacts too
    Fred says:
    in the right places
    Calibrax says:
    I give up...
