  • hi,

im new here and theres masses of informationon this thread - so much that i just got confused.
so sorry to ask the same question that has been asked maybe 1000 times on here - I can rebuild my crdiet rating by applying and being accepted for one of these cards. I do have a bad history some years back of defaults but i havent even applied for credit( apart from a payday loan or two) for ages. So would i be accepted? Im in a good job that pays well but cant get loans or anything so my friends sent me over here as they said you lot were clued up.

so here i am and there is my request.

    thanks folks.

  • Hi all,

I've been lurking for a while getting endless advice just by reading through things and thought I would finally post something.

I have had very bad credit for many years now ( a few defaults i would imagine) and still havn't got around to checking my credit files, although I do actually have the postal orders ready to do it.

I have had the halifax Cardcash for 9 years now because no one would let me have a proper current account. Earlier this year I was acccepted by A & L but because I didn't pay my salary into my account they closed it, it was stupid of me considering they had taken a chance on me. It was only open for about three months and I was trying to sort out my direct debits so that when i switched everything over, if it didn't happen in time I would not miss any payments, A & L told me it could take 4-6 weeks and I couldn't risk it, but they closed it the same week I had sorted everything out to swap. Anyway I have re-applied and been refused so I have sent an appeal letter stating my case and will wait and see what they say. After being refused by everyone else I tried to upgrade with Halifax and was refused online but when i rang to check my balance the advisor over something she told me to try again with her because the systems are REFUSING people online for no reason and it is better to speak to an advisor, I was declined anyway but thought it was interesting she said this.

I have since been accepted for a Natwest Current Account Plus and the account was opened on Thursday so I am waiting to see what card I am given and to see if I am given a O/D. Well, I can dream at least.

I have been declined for Cap One, Flybe, Vanquish, Aqua and Monument and every other card under the sun but to my surprise I was accepted for the MBNA card with the £100 deposit, which I now have in my posession.

Thanks to MBNA and Natwest I know have a starting point to hopefully sort out my credit files and hopefully start the road out of Sub Prime.

I also have a t-mobile contract which will help too.

Anyway Essay over but without this thread I would be a Credit Card, Current Account and a whole heap of knowledge worse off so keep up the good work.

Hello and Welcome, before we get started, have you checked your credit files yet? If so what data is there and is it good or bad, if we can get an idea what your history is like we can point you in the right direction.

Hello and welcome, well done on the Natwest account and the MBNA Visa, it is good that you have your foot in the door with a company like MBNA as you can work your way up through the ranks to a better card and rate of interest. I think as a rule of thumb the best course of action is to clean your files up as much as possible and run your accounts well, say after about a year you should, all things being well, go for a mainstream card.

There are three credit reference agencies you should querie, Experian..free 30 day trial, Equifax....free 30 day trial and Call-Credit who I think do a trial too, get the data in front of you and try and understand what it is you are reading, any probs just ask myself or any of the other lad's and lasse's on here will be more than willing to help you.

I applied for the Citibank account (just as a backup to my Halifax account in case things go tits up with them) and after receiving a letter saying I had been "provisonally accepted" I received one today declining me.

I did apply to Ulster Bank online and they gave me a Step account with a Solo card. I'll just keep that in stand by in case anything goes wrong with the Halifax.
