Well done BL, goodness knows he had enough chances to change his behaviour. Hope he clears off without too much grief in the interim.Ellie

Well done, Badger_Lady, he was definitely taking the pee. He doesn't get it, though, does he? In his message he implies you have been inconsiderate by asking him to leave just before Christmas. Unbelievable! He is architect of his own downfall by having GF move in and the smoking indoors. I love a puff myself but never in someone's else's house/car. That is disrespectful.
Perhaps you should advertise his room now and show people around and he'll get the message that he's definitely surplus to requirements.
I honestly think he's used up his stock of goodwill with the smoking breaches and the GF and that's without his stuff being left all over the house and the noise nuisance to the neighbours and to you.0 -

Agreed... unfortunately it looks like I'm being shipped across the pond again, so this Saturday pm and Sunday am will be my last days at home until the New Year :doh:Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -
Oh dear, that's not good. Maybe JoannaLodger can act in Loco Parentis for a free week's worth or rent?
Christmas away from home? I'd be asking for a small bonus!0 -

Oh, I'll be back from the US by Christmas Eve - then I'm popping up to see my Aunt in Northern England for my Crimble dinner (I don't have any family back home, unless you count Tufter!). And then I go straight from my Aunt's back to the London office until New Year's Eve.
My life is a logistical nightmare :rotfl:Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -
I don't know if you remember B_L but a few years ago I had a problem with a lodger smoking in my room. He knew it was against house rules and had promised to always smoke outside. I did as much as i could to help him and let him smoke in the utility room as long as he shut the internal kitchen door.
However, he took the p155 too. he used to open his bedroom window and stand by there smoking. even the neighbours saw him doing it (from their back garden) . I knew because I could smell it when I walked upstairs.
He got told to leave and i found dogends down between the mattress and bed frame.
I haven't had lodgers since I've moved here but if I did I wouldn't allow someone who was a smoker. They say they will smoke outside but I would think yeah right, course you would (not). In fact after that person went, i changed my ad to non smokers only.
something you might want to consider?Mortgage free as of 10/02/2015. Every brick and blade of grass belongs to meeeee. :j0 -

Sadly that is the conclusion I'm coming toI hate to discriminate, after all there are respectful people out there who wouldn't dream of smoking indoors, particularly in these modern times where it's usually illegal to do so! But look at the history:
NoisyLodger - smoked in his bedroom claiming "she'll never know"
NiceSoFarLodger - non-smoker
SickInTheBathLodger - smoked in the living room when he was drunk
MauritiusLodger - non-smoker
AngelLodger - non-smoker
QuackersLodger - non-smoker
SleepyLodger - non-smoker
ClumsyLodger - non-smoker
ChattyLodger - smoked only ever outdoors
BigBruvLodger - was caught smoking in the living room when drunk
BigGunsLodger - smokes everywhere!
JoannaLodger - non-smoker
So out of 4 smokers who've lived here, 3 have been naughty boys! And they'll spoil it for all future smokers.Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -
Don't let your lodger know that you aren't here between now and when he's supposed to leave - keep him on tenterhooks about your visits...?
Otherwise he'll be less inclined to do anything about moving on.0 -
Awww, JoannaLodger just emailed to say that he rocked in at 4:30 this morning and stayed up chatting in his bedroom until 6am.
