It never did get redirected to me - she paid just enough to be outside the 2 month rule and then moved out (and then paid the rest of the arrears). There's absolutely no way I'll have any hand in fraud. I'll do anything in my power to help out legally.

Of course, we don't know for sure yet whether this is the problem... I'm meeting her in half an hour.

Well, it turns out we were right - she has been severely overpaid. But she genuinely didn't know (very, very silly) and does not intend to commit fraud (although the idea had crossed her mind). I told her, as a friend, that she is going to have to pay it back but that she doesn't necessarily have to find it in one lump, that they'll probably take instalments within her means. I then looked up the local Citizens Advice Bereau and showed her where to go and when.

With a bit of reassurance that it'll all turn out OK, she went home smiling :)

It doesn't need saying again: silly girl!

Where do you find them all badger lady? I have had lodgers over the years but the bonkers ones thankfully seem to stay away from me and gravitate towards yourself!

Sorry but I cannot see for the life of me how she did not know.
The money must have been paid into her account.
I would certainly know if someone was paying money into my account.
Did you notify HB in writing when she left?

No - the contract was between the LHA and her, so I left them to it.

I would have noticed those kind of payments too. But to be fair she was trying to birth her first child, which I'm sure is distracting.

:oads of women have babies Badger they don't lose their common sense. If you get more post for her send it back return to sender address unknown and make sure she is not on the electoral register at your house.

She shouldn't be asking you for help with her problems, she should be asking her chap, MIL etc - as a landlady you're a bit too soft..just sayin'

Have to admit thats what I'm thinking, what on earth does it have to do with you now she's moved out?

Assuming you don't have any responsibility for telling them that she no longer lives with you then her failing to notify them properly and as a result still receiving the money has !!!!!! all to do with you and tbh theres no reason you even need to know - unless you get asked to confirm when she left.

Frankly I also agree with Horace, having a baby is stressful I would imagine but someone who has no job thus no income can't claim not to have at least wondered where that £400 a month was coming from - I know I would and thats as someone who not only has her salary coming in but payments for mystery shopping etc which I'm terrible at keeping track of.

Me being cynical cant help but think she decided she needed the extra cash for baby and just didnt bother to tell them, and its now catching up with her.
