Scuba, forget Surrey! Wales is where it's at...
So I hear...sadly Mr Scuba is at Surrey and he doesn't seem too taken with the idea of driving more than 30 mins to see me when I move to be nearer him - odd boy that he is. :cool:It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

Hmmm. I have a concern.
QuackersLodger came round recently to collect her mountain of post (she's been distracted with having babies and such). After a couple of days, she wrote me a message along the lines of, "uh-oh - I've opened the post and need to speak to you urgently!".
I've invited her round for a quick visit this evening but asked what it was about. She says, "Basically housing benefit think I'm still living with you!!! I had told them otherwise, but upon reading my post I got from yours, they dont seem to realise, but its womewhat more complicated than just telling them now. I'll explain when I see you."
Hmm. Thoughts?Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -
So does that mean her current landlord's rent is unpaid? Or she now has no rent liability in her current accommodation (if perhaps her partner pays for it) does this mean she has an overpayment to pay back to them which she's actually reluctant to confess to - for example, because she's spent it? Or were you receiving the LHA without noticing because you got this redirected to be paid directly to you when she failed to pay her rent and racked up big arrears?
In either way, it demonstrates that she's still not on top of her basic budget or personal admin.
When did she leave? How much LHA would have been paid in this period? Who received the LHA? How much rent does she still owe you from the past or did she pay this off?
Tell her to redirect her mail via the Royal Mail redirection service. You have no obligation to store her mail for her or forward it onto her.0 -
I don't know for sure, but I don't think she's entitled to housing benefit at her new house, because it's in her mother-in-law's garden and isn't classed as separate accommodation. I think.
In which case, if she's continued claiming housing benefit at my place since June last year, that's about £4,200 falsely claimed. What's she going to ask me to do about it? Eep!

Kinell!
Fortunately, it sounds like it may not be your problem. I hope.
Maybe she's going to ask you not to be candid about where she lives now and when she actually left. I do hope not.0 -
I assume you know you haven't recieved it?Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. Anne Lamott
It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?
Please consider buying some pet food and giving it to your local food bank collection or animal charity. Animals aren't to blame for the cost of living crisis.0 -

She didn't notice until she collected her post that she'd been paid more than £4k housing benefit over the last 12 months that she believe she had cancelled?! Why would she not notice fortnightly payments into her account of approximately £200....Or did she conveniently forget to notify her telephone provider, bank and so forth of her new address, too, which would further give the impression to the authorities, including debt collecting agencies, that she still lives with you.
This is the position on receiving HB when living with relatives, either in their property or in a separate dwelling where they are the landlord. If she's living with her partner, then his income gets taken into account for the purposes of means tested benefits

Put all her post back in the mailbox marked as 'Return to sender. Gone away'...Make sure she's not on the electoral register at your place.Badger_Lady wrote: »

How did she manage to get the payments directed back to herself which the local council directed to you when she got into 2 months plus arrears?0
